2016 Chinook Sugarbeeter Football Team

Another season of Chinook Sugarbeeter football is upon us. Practice has been going strong and with two-a-days behind them the players that make up the 2016 version of the Chinook Sugarbeeters are ready to put on the pads and face an actual opponent.

Head Coach Scott Friede is back at the helm for his third season. Christian Lehnert is back for his third season as assistant coach. Joining the coaching staff this fall is Tanner Cummings.

The 'Beeters have some work to this fall as they return just two starters from last years state championship team in senior Tate Niederegger and senior Kade Friede.

Although the team may be short on gameday experience they are long with overall desire and will to compete and prove themselves.

They have plenty of athleticism on the team with a number of kids who have been patiently waiting for their chance to shine.

Senior Kyler Johnson and senior Michael Warburton collected valuable minutes during big stretches a season ago and both are very coachable and possess a willingness to put the team first.

"Kyler's just a great kid he does everything you ask, just like Michael, put the with Kade and Tate and you have a pretty good group leading your team," stated Friede.

Kade Friede will be counted on to run the offense and proved capable when given the opportunity last fall.

Niederegger is a stellar running back and defensive stopper and will be counted on to lead the team on both sides of the ball.

Senior Kyle McMaster has had a great fall so far and will be counted on for big contributions come gameday.

Senior Trevor Reid and senior Franklin Nez Perce have performed very well throughout practice this fall and much is expected of them.

"Kyles been great, so has Trevor they work so hard and they fantastic to have around. It's going to fun to watch them along with everyone else progress through the season," commented Friede.

Junior Tamer Jamieson will take over at center this fall, "Tamer's been fantastic, great attitude. He has some big shoes to fill but he's capable and will give the team 110 percent," said Friede.

Juniors Branden Paulson and JJ Colby have good quickness and football sense and will be expected to fill holes on the edge outside on both sides of the ball. Junior Jacob Huckabee and Steven Mulonet will look to contribute as well.

Sophomores out this fall include James Chritiansen, Brenden Edwards, Ryle Elliot, Tye Mitchell, Chase Moxley, Ross Reed and Karsen Powell.

Freshman joining the team are Shane Friede, JT Hauer, Reubin Swenson, Reilly Weigand, Sam Dumas, Josh Gillette and Kurtis Slaughter.

"This team is very capable, they have good size, their quick and they want to learn and contribute. They are a talented bunch. as a coaching staff we are really excited to see how they are going to grow, who's going to step up but we are taking it one day at a time. That's our motto right now, one day at a time and we'll see where it takes us, I'm excited," concluded Friede.

Kade will be playing his senior season with his dad making the call, "It's my senior year, I've been looking forward to working with the underclassman," Kade said. "We need to take one week and one game at a time and see what happens."

"It's an awesome privilege to play football and to defend a state championship. It's also a great opportunity to spend time with my dad," concluded Kade.

With the addition of Hays/Lodge Pole to the division the teams of the Northern C will all be in action every weekend of the season, which means a nine game schedule. It also means no bye week.

The schedule change will force teams to overcome injuries and other set backs during a game week.

The only extended break would be between the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs.

The 'Beeters open up the fall campaign at home this Saturday night when the host the Centerville Miners. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.

The ‘Beeters open up the fall campaign at home this Saturday night when the host the Centerville Miners. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Northern C is arguably the toughest of divisions in eight-man football and with five or six teams year in and year out with a legitimate shot to win the crown it means you don’t see a lot of cupcakes on your schedule.

The ‘Beeters will get right in the thick of things game two and three when the hit the road for a pair of tough clashes against the Simms Tigers and Belt Huskies.

The Tigers and ‘Beeters have mixed it up pretty good on the football field for several years and have developed a mutual feeling for each other that makes it one to circle on the calendar as soon as the schedule is released.

The Huskies and ‘Beeters have also played some memorable games of late but last years thumping may have left a sour note with the Huskies making this contest intriguing as well.

Chinook will then return home for a pair of contest against the Fort Benton Longhorns and the Power-Dutton Brady Titans. The contest with Titans is also Homecoming.

September 30th will mark the renewal of one of the best rivalries in the Northern C, when the ‘Beeters make the trek east to Chester to face the Hawks.

October 7th will be Chinook’s final home contest of the regular season and is also senior night. They will play Great Falls Central.

Chinook will close out the regular season on the road against Cascade and Hays/Lodge Pole.

The Class C playoffs begin on Saturday, October 29th with first round action. Quarterfinal and Semifinal rounds will follow each Saturday with the State Championship to be played on Saturday, November 20th.

The top four teams from the Northern C will advance to the post season.
