Northern B & C volleyball begin season this weekend

August 24, 2016

The volleyball season is once again upon us as gyms across the high-line will be filled with action as the 2016 season gets underway Friday.

Teams were able to practice for the first time on Friday, August 12 and after two weeks of practice and conditioning the Sugarbeeters and Wildcats will face live action for the first time this weekend.

Chinook will begin play this Friday at home against Fort Benton and then join Harlem in Malta Saturday for the M-ettes annual tournament.

The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds are expected to play this fall and will begin the season next weekend at the North Star showcase.

The Thunderbirds were expected to hire a new coach Tuesday and a schedule and roster will be included in next weeks edition.

Chinook has won three straight 6C-East District and Conference championships and have advanced to the state tournament two of the past three seasons, including last fall.

The Sugarbeeters have been dominate in 6C-East play during that stretch and will again be among the favorites.

The Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks and North Star Knights have been very successful as well and again will have something to say this season.

Big Sandy will be improved as well as Box Elder. Due to rotation the 6C-East this year will only send two teams to the Northern C Divisional instead of three.

The 6C-East should provide plenty of excitement on the court and seeding for the post season will be crucial making every conference clash a big one.

The District 6C-East tournament will be played in Chinook, October 27-28. The Northern C will be played the following week, November 3-5 in Conrad.

The State C will again be held in Bozeman, November 10-12 at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

The Wildcats have seen steady growth in numbers that past three years and again have a great number of girls out this fall.

Harlem joins the Malta M-ettes, Wolf Point Wolves, Glasgow Scotties and Poplar Indians as members of the District 2B.

On the flip side the Chouteau Bulldogs, Cut Bank Wolves, Conrad Cowgirls, Shelby Coyotes, Fairfield Eagles and Rocky Boy Morning Stars make up the District 1B.

The top four teams in each district advance to the divisional tournament with the top two teams advancing to state from there.

The District 2B Tournament will take place October 28-29 in Malta. The Northern C Divisional will take place at Shelby High School on November 3-4. The State B will be held in Bozeman at the Brick Breeden Field house November 10-12.

Fans who enjoy volleyball should be able to find a quality game every weekend of the fall.
