Chinook girls 3rd at Cal Wearley, Turner, Harlem, Chinook boys claim individual titles

Chinook sophomore Megan Molyneaux begins to separate from the pack in the 200 Meter dash at the Cal wearley last Wednesday. Molyneaux dominated the sprints all weekend winning both the 100 and 200 meter sprints Wednesday and Saturday. Molyneauxs time of :12.28 in the 100 automatically qualifies her for the state meet and is also a new school record.

The spring Track and Field season kicked into high gear this past weekend as more than 30 teams and 500 athletes converged on the Middle School track in Havre for the Annual Cal Wearley Invitational. Saturday many of the same teams were back for the Havre Invitational.

The Chinook Girls faired very well at both meets finishing third in the Cal Wearley with 59 points and fourth in the Havre Invitational with 76 points. The Harlem boys had a great showing at the Cal Wearley finishing fourth.

Blaine County athletes shined with several individuals capturing titles. Chinook sophomore Megan Molyneaux had her way with the sprints dominating the field in both meets.

The 100 meter dash is generally a bang-bang finish but Wednesday Molyneaux ran away from the field blistering the track in :12.28 to win by nearly six tenths of a second. Her effort also qualified her for the State meet in May and established a new school record shattering the old mark by two tenths of a second.

Molyneaux won the 200 meter dash Wednesday in :26.90 and was victorious again in both events Saturday. The sophomore also ran a leg on the 'Beeters 4x100 Meter Relay that won the event at both Meets. Sophomore Kourtney Hanson, junior Jaye Anderson and senior Rochelle Chaffin each ran solid legs for the team.

Harlem senior Tyus Hammett jumped his way to the boys high jump title clearing 6'2" to win the event. Hammett also scored a fourth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles for the Wildcats.

Wildcat senior Reece Hutton continued his dominance in the throwing events winning both the Discus and the Shot Put at the Cal Wearley. His flip of 150'7" was tops in the Discus while his heave of 51'3" easily won the Shot Put.

Saturday Hanson completed the two laps of the track to win the 800 Meter run with a time of 2:37.00. Hanson along with Chaffin, Anderson and sophomore Lincy Johnson finished third in the 4x400 Meter relay.

Chinook senior Kyler Johnson was the winner of the 1600 Meter run Saturday completing the four laps in 4:55.20 to win the event.

Turner sophomore Cody Welsh sprinted to a top finish in the 110 Meter Hurdles completing the course in :17.50.

Turner junior Eddie Harmon had a great weekend on the track finishing in the top three of the 100, 200, 400 and 800 Meter runs.

Turner junior Eddie Harmon continues to be among the top runners in the state in the sprints and the middle distances. Saturday Harmon ran his way to second place finishes in the 100, 200 and 800 meter runs. Wednesday at the Cal Wearley Harmon finished third in the 100, second in the 400 and second in the 800.

Chinook senior Rochelle Chaffin score well for the Sugarbeeters running legs on both the short and long relays at both meets while also finishing third in the 300 meter hurdles Wednesday and fourth in the triple jump. Saturday Chaffin was third in the 200 meter dash and sixth in the high jump.

Chinook also picked up points from freshman Raynee Hasler with a second place finish in the 3200 meter run Saturday morning. Senior Brooke Elliot finished second in the Javelin Saturday while sophomore Rachel Gunderson earned a third in the Javelin Wednesday.
