Sugarbeeter head coach Thom MacLean addresses the doubles team of junior Sierra Swank and junior Megan Pruttis during a break in action over the weekend.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters continued to show that they are amongst the top teams in the Class B/C Tennis ranks after stringing together another fine effort on the courts this past week.

The Sugarbeeters hosted Fort Benton on Tuesday and then competed in the "Southern Scuffle" that had the girls playing in Boulder on Friday and Townsend on Saturday.

At the Southern Scuffle the 'Beeters faced Boulder, Townsend, Fairfield, Chester-Joplin-Inverness and Poplar.

Over all the level of competition was high and the way the girls continued to improve is not lost on Coach Thom MacLean, "I was really happy with our performance against Fort Benton. The Longhorns have a lot of talent on their team. Our top two singles players, Nicole and Jamie, each went 2 and 0 against them and the doubles team of Sierra and Megan won all three of their matches."

The 'Beeters moved on from the Longhorns and faced players they haven't seen as often but would certainly provide good competition.

MacLean was again very pleased with the performance of the girls on the court,

"Sierra and Megan won all their matches against some very tough competition."

"They won a very close match against the doubles team of Townsend and Konen from Fairfield. Those two placed at State last year and are one of the top returning teams this year," said MacLean.

The 'Beeters top singles players had great success as well, "Nicole McCracken and Jamie Roth each only lost one match last week. Nicole had a good win over Jesse Hamlin of Townsend, who placed fifth in singles at State last year," said MacLean.

Senior Nicole McCracken has played very well for the Sugarbeeters and is currently one of the top singles players in the Division heading into the post season.

The whole team is continuing to challenge themselves and get better each time they step on the court, and this weekend was another step toward Divisionals and State.

"Overall, it was a great week with some good competition to help us gear up for the last few weeks of the season," concluded MacLean.

This week the 'Beeters will travel to Choteau on Saturday as the regular season comes to a close.

The 'Beeters will then turn their attention to the Northern B/C in Havre on May 11-12.Chinook is the defending champ of the Northern B/C will look to again qualify another full team for the State Tournament in Missoula the following week.

The top six singles players and the top two doubles teams will advance from the Divisional tournament to the State meet where the Sugarbeeters will look to claim another team title.
