Former Youth Challenge Cadet Graduates Aaniiih Nakota College with Honors

Anthony Main of Hays, Montana and a member of the Assiniboine Tribe, has graduated with honors from Aaniiih Nakota College with an Associates' Degree in the Carpentry Program. He sustained an average GPA greater than 3.5 and therefore, graduated with honors during the 31st Commencement Ceremony held on May 11th at the Red Whip Gymnasium on Ft. Belknap. Anthony is also a 2013 graduate of the Montana Youth Challenge Academy located in Dillon, Montana and credits Youth Challenge with giving him the academic foundation necessary to pursue his educational goals at Aaniiih Nakota College. Anthony's future plans are to pursue a carpentry career with the Housing Authority or perhaps a Carpentry Internship. Ron Carroll, Marketing Coordinator with Youth Challenge was in attendance at the ceremony.

The Montana Youth Challenge Academy (MYCA) is a two-phase, academic-based program located in Dillon, Montana on the campus of the University of Montana-Western. The Academy's focus, is to assist youth, ages 16-18, by helping them to develop the academic and life skills necessary to be successful. During the twenty-two week residential phase, Academy participants focus on eight Core Components which include Physical Fitness, Academic Excellence, Leadership-Followership, Responsible Citizenship, Service to Community, Life-Coping Skills, Job Skills and Health & Hygiene. Following graduation from the Residential Phase, students enter a 12-month Post Residential Phase in which they maintain on-going contact with a volunteer Mentor in their community who provides additional guidance & support.

MYCA conducts two sessions each year and the next session starts on July 18, 2017.
