'Beeter fall in Choteau 38-0, Host CJI Friday

August 30, 2017

The Chinook Sugarbeeter football team traveled to Choteau this past Saturday to face the Bulldogs in their first Eight Man football game since being reclassified from the Class B ranks.

The 'Beeters played the Bulldogs tough early but experience began to show as the game wore on leading to a 38-0 Choteau win.

Head Coach Christian Lehnert understands that this team is young and needs to be more productive on offense, "We need to score in order to win football games so we need to learn to find pay dirt during the game and start getting some better push up front."

The Sugarbeeters had a tough time moving the ball and that starts on the ground, "We need to be able to run the ball so we will be able to throw a little more and hopefully we can give our quarterback more time to throw," said Lehnert.

The 'Beeters surely held their own defensively, and recorded several big plays in the Bulldog backfield and forcing some miscues, "Defensively they played pretty well the first half and then played very good the second half. If we keep building off of that and keep improving on our responsibilities, fundamentals, and our tackling. They will be a hard group to score on," added Lehnert.

The kids played hard every snap and Lehnert believes his team will find the win column because of it, "They played hard for four quarters which is a testament to their hard work in practice and conditioning. They didn't give up and kept fighting all the way to the end which shows you all the heart they have. Those two things right there will win them games if they keep it up."

Chinook will make its home debut this Friday against a known rival when the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks come to town. The teams have often played very entertaining games regardless of when and where the played.

"I look forward to our home opener against CJI. It's been a great rivalry between these two schools for a lot of years. I feel like we are both in growing years and that we match up pretty well. Should be good close game," concluded Lehnert.

Kickoff Friday is set for 7:00 p.m. at Hoon Field.
