What 'cher point?

The Montana Grizzlies had a mixed bag last Saturday when they played Savannah State at home in Missoula.

They won the game handily, beating Savanna State 56 to 3 of all things but their main quarterback Reese Phillips had a serious ankle injury. That called in freshman Gresch Jensen who did a great job as backup quarterback.

Closer to home it was the Thunderbirds losing to Box Elder 22 to 6. Chinook lost to Fort Benton 36 to 2. Havre lost to Belgrade 43 to 6 and Harlem lost to Cut Bank 65 to 0. Bad day for the home teams, right? If that wasn’t bad enough Northern lost to Carroll 34 to 3 and Rocky lost to Butte 34 to 28. Making things worse than just losing were the scores. Other than Rocky those scores were really bad.

However, a little ways down the highway, Big Sandy did manage a win over Heart Butte 56 to 19. That was impressive!

Not much to tell so far in the NFL. New Orleans lost to Minnesota last week which was sort of shocking. New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees might be going out with a whimper, not a bang as this is the last year of his contract with New Orleans.

Coming out of last week with at least one win are Buffalo, Jacksonville, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Oakland, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Carolina, Atlanta, Detroit, Green Bay and Las Angeles. That looks sort of like one hot mess, doesn’t it?

As I write these words I am watching the Eagles go after Kansas City and so far no one can get anything but a field goal.

Those with just losses so far this season are Arizona, San Fran, Seattle, Minnesota, Chicago, Tampa, New Orleans, Washington, the Giants, Dallas, Las Angeles, Denver Cincinnati, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Houston, Tennessee, the Jets, New England and Miami.

All that tells us is to change fantasy football players if necessary and that if some off the golden oldies of the NFL don’t get off the bench and start playing, it is going to be a very different year.

Already with one win before this weekend, I have heard that Pittsburgh is Super Bowl bound. Could happen!

How about some picks for this week. Let’s start at home.

Chinook plays Rocky Boy and loses. The Thunderbirds play CJI and win. Harlem plays Shelby and loses and Havre plays Glendive and let’s give that one to Havre for a change.

Rocky plays the College of Idaho and wins. Northern plays Western and loses.

Montana plays Eastern Washington and wins. The Bobcats play North Dakota and lose.

In Week Three of the NFL it is on Thursday night San Francisco beating the Rams.

On Sunday it is the Colts over the Browns, The Giants over the Eagles and the Jets over the Dolphins.

It is the Broncos over the Bills, The Panthers over the Saints and the Steelers over the Bears.

How about the Falcons over the Lions, the Vikings over the Buccaneers and the Patriots finally win a game by beating the Texans.

The Seahawks beat the Titans, the Packers beat the Bengals and the Chiefs beat the Chargers.

On Sunday night it is the Raiders beating the Redskins.

Monday night football features the Cowboys beating the Cardinals.

That is my story and I am sticking to it. Go Thunderbirds!
