September 20, 2017

The Chinook Sugarbeeter volleyball team steamrolled through the Big Sandy Pioneers and the Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds this past weekend winning both matches in straight sets.

Friday the team headed to Big Sandy to face the Pioneers in a Northern C, District 6C East contest.

Junior Kourtney Hanson slammed home a pair of kills and senior Sierra Swank served up a trio of Aces to help the Sugarbeeters win the opening set easily 25-12.

It was more of the same dominance in set number two. This time it was junior Megan Molyneaux picking up a pair of kills and junior Rachel Gunderson serving up three aces in another 25-12 set win.

The Sugarbeeter secured the straight set win with 25-10 decision in the third set. Hanson and Molyneaux each finished the match with three kills apiece. Swank recorded five aces in all and Gunderson 4. Swank and junior Lincy Johnson each recorded nine digs in the win and Swank set up the hitters with seven assists.

Saturday the 'Beeters returned to their home court to take on the Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds in another

District 6C-East conference clash.

Senior Sierra Swank took her turn leading the offensive attack with a pair of kills in a dominate opening set for the 'Beeters. Junior Rachel Gunderson tallied three aces and junior Megan Molyneaux added two in a 25-3 set win.

Set number two saw Molyneaux pick up three kills and junior Kourtney Hanson collect two. Gunderson served up four more aces and Swank set up the hitters with four assists in helping the Sugarbeeters to a 25-10 second set win.

The third set had Hanson pounding home two more kills and Gunderson picking her spots for six more aces as Chinook finished the match with a 25-6 set win.

Hanson finished the contest with four kills, Molyneaux added three for the Sugarbeeters in the win.

Molyneaux and Swank each finished with five assists while Gunderson recorded 14 aces in all.

With the pair of wins the Sugarbeeters improve to 3-1 in District 6C-East play and 3-2 overall.

The 'Beeters currently sit in third place in the District with North Star sitting at 3-0 and Chester-Joplin-Inverness 4-1.

The three teams will face each other in the immediate future with tournament seeding on the line.

Thursday the Sugarbeeters will travel to Chester to face the Hawks in the pairs first match of the District schedule. The two teams faced off during the Chinook Invitational Tournament earlier in the season.

Next Thursday the Sugarbeeters will take on the North Star Knights in the schools Homecoming contest. The Knights bested the Sugarbeeters in five sets earlier in the season. The Sugarbeeters will hope to even the season series.

The top three teams from the District 6C-East will qualify for the Northern C Divisional.

The standings would suggest that those three teams will surely be the favorites to advance as Big Sandy (1-3), Box Elder (1-3) and Hays/Lodge Pole (0-4) don't seem to be in the mix.

The Sugarbeeters will look to battle their way through schedule and the District tournament in hopes of earning the number one seed at the Northern C Divisional.

The District 6C-East Tournament will take place in Chester October 26-27. The Northern C will be in Chinook on November 2-4.
