Winter Storm Causes Havoc All Across The Hi-Line

October 4, 2017

The weather in Montana is always unpredictable especially on the Highline and this past Monday we were made aware of just how crazy it can get. Locals can often be heard describing the weather as "just give it 10 minutes" and it will change. But, every now and again the storm catches even the most prepared residents off guard.

The storm that came through was a wet heavy snow that weighed down the branches of the trees to a point of breaking causing a whole lot of damage all over Blaine County and a loss of power to nearly every resident.

On the bright side it could have been much worse without the quick response of local emergency responders and community members working diligently through the night and day to help clear tree and brush from the roads, highways, and yards among many other things to help make progress possible.

Due to the impact of the storm many businesses, families, and individuals have been greatly affected and have had to reach out in ways never expected to get through these trying times.

Here at the Blaine County Journal News Opinion due to the power outage we have been unable to put out our paper at its normal time. Our intention is that we put out this condensed version of our paper to ensure our customers and advertisers are informed with what's happening in the county.

Originally we had planned to run a full spread recognizing National 4-H week, but due to circumstances we will now run that section in the October 18th paper. Please please look for the special section featuring the then and now history of 4-H in Blaine County.

We'd also planned to run a homecoming section for the Chinook Sugarbeeters and will now run that section in next week's paper.

With the limited time available before going to press information regarding exact amounts damage and the totality of this winter storm we have decided to run these stories and photos in next week's paper as well. However, due to the power outage this "breaking" news was able to be our now front page story. The Harlem Hunger Walk will also be published next week as well.

We at the Blaine County Journal News Opinion wish all the residents of Blaine County the very best and getting through this troublesome time together.
