Montana Weather: One day to the next!

October 11, 2017

These little cuties spent the better part of recess piling leaves, jumping in it, and throwing them in the air trying to catch them. They were having such a wonderful time! Then, Monday began to cool off and a skiff of snow blanketed the playground. The children were looking for whatever amount of the first snow they could find to pile on to their little snowmen they were building. By the time Tuesday came, the playground was soaked with about an inch of rain and soaking the leaves and ground. That was only a flirt of what was to come. By afternoon, the rain was followed by about 4 to 5 inches of pure moisture... snow! At 10:00 Tuesday, the power went out and buses were put on standby for dismissal. At 11:30, buses were loaded and the students were sent home with no power on the entire Big Flat. This would be the case until early Thursday evening when the power came back on. Even though the power was off, people were quick to help a neighbor in need. Luckily, no emergencies were reported and it was just a case of inconveniences. People were quick to help out a neighbor with whatever they needed. Water, generators, and warm food were just a few items that neighbors would be seen transporting from their home to others. The sound of generators filled the air in town and shifts were taken filling the tanks with fuel. We can definitely say, we that live on the Big Flat can be fortunate! Bottom right: These little ones were scavenging for any amount of snow they could find Monday during recess. This was what the little ones call "FUN" and later it would turn to close to 5 inches of total accumulation of snow. These kinds of storms take one by surprise and you aren't quite ready for the effects of it. But, neighbors helping neighbors make things bearable and we all got through it with a few inconveniences of not having power. Thanks to all the electrical crews that worked day and night to get the power up and running again. The little ones in this photo are Abby Grabofsky, Bailey Billmayer, and Harley Beck. They had a whole family of cute little snow people!
