The Chinook Sugarbeeter volleyball team continued its roller coaster season this past week picking up a 3-0 sweep of the Big Sandy Pioneers on Thursday. Saturday it was the Fort Benton Longhorns doing the sweeping as they defeated the Sugarbeeters in straight sets leaving the Sugarbeeters with a 5-5 overall record.

Chinook took the first set against the Pioneers by a score of 25-19. Junior Rachel Gunderson and junior Kourtney Hanson each recorded two kills in the win and junior Lincy Johnson dug up four balls.

In set two it was a back and forth battle where neither team ever seemed to be in control but in the end it was the Sugarbeeters that outlasted the Pioneers winning the set 28-26.

Senior Sierra Swank tallied two kills and senior Carrie Hofer had six digs for the 'Beeters.

The final set was another close contest but Chinook maintained a slim lead throughout before closing out the Pioneers with a 25-21 third set win to complete the match sweep as well as the season sweep.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters improved to 5-2 in District

6C-East play with their 3-0 sweep of Big Sandy Thursday.

The Sugarbeeters own wins over both teams and will need to pick two more to solidify their position in the post season tournament.

The District 6C-East tournament will be held in Chester October 26-28 with the top three teams advancing to the Northern C Tournament in Chinook the following week.

The team faced the Malta M-ettes in a non-conference clash Tuesday and results will be in next weeks paper.
