'Beeters fair well in Glasgow, Wildcats Humphreys a Champion at 285

Wildcat senior Curtis Humphreys looks for the pin Saturday in Glasgow. Humphreys was crowned champion of the 285 pound weight class at the Scottie Invitational.
The Chinook Sugarbeeters hosted their first mixer of the season this past Friday and were joined on the mats by the Harlem Wildcats and Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds.
The Mixer provides each wrestler with the opportunity to wrestle three matches against similar caliber opponents if possible. No teams scores are kept.
Saturday the three teams headed to Glasgow for the 22nd Annual Scottie Invitational which would provide our local wrestlers an opportunity to face opponents they may not see again until the post season.
The Sugarbeeters finished eighth in the 22 team tournament bringing nine wrestlers into the tournament and placing two. Freshman Austin Swanson was third at 103 pounds and freshman Garrett Pruttis was fourth at 120 pounds.
The Harlem Wildcats had an individual champion in senior Curtis Humphreys at 285 pounds. The Wildcats finished twelfth as a team.
Humphreys battle his way to the top of the podium Saturday by winning four matches, all by pinfall.
In the opening round Humphreys pinned Preston Bad Bear of Hardin in :32. In thew quarterfinal match he defeated Maltas Luke Lawless by pin in just :38.
Humphreys cruised into the semifinal match where he faced Kyle Schillinger of Circle. this match lasted bit longer but Humphreys recorded his third pin of the day in 1:31 to advance to the championship.
In the finale Humphreys squared off against Jesse Murdoch of Harden and claimed the championship just :38 into the match collecting his fourth consecutive pin.
Swanson began his day by pinning Beau Black Eagle of Hardin in 1:02. Swanson then lost a 9-2 decision to eventual winner Kaiden Cline of Sidney.
Two weeks into the season the teams are starting to figure out what their strengths and weaknesses are and will use the next two weeks leading into the holiday break to address those issues. "The kids have been wrestling better each time we hit the mat. We see improvement in all of them each week. Their attitude is great and we look forward to what they bring every time they wrestle," said Sugarbeeter coach Perry Miller.
The coaching staff was very happy with the Sugarbeeters effort this past weekend, "They did a super job at Glasgow, finishing eighth out of the 22 teams represented at the tournament. Individually Austin Swanson was third at 103 lbs. Rebecca Stroh was sixth at 103 and Garrett Pruttis finished fourth at 120 lbs. JT Hauer at 152 pounds and Reubin Swenson at 205 pounds qualified for the fifth and sixth place matches, but were at their match limit for the day. All of the wrestlers scored valuable points for the team," concluded Miller.
The Sugarbeeters and Wildcats will be in Fort Benton this Thursday and the CMR Holiday Classic on Friday and Saturday.
