Trajan Hannum scores two of his 12 points in Thursdays 58-48 win over Harlem.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters continued their march through the District 9C and the Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds stretched their win streak to four games as both teams began 2018 with a pair of wins and the Harlem Wildcats remain undefeated in the District 2B.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters took on the Harlem Wildcats Thursday night in a non-conference tilt to begin the new year.

The Sugarbeeters started fast taking a 10-2 lead on the strength of six points from junior Cord Schneider and a three point bucket from junior Trajan Hannum.

Chinook led 15-8 at the end of one but the Wildcats had an answer in the second. Junior Lane Allen knocked down a triple to begin the quarter and moments later sophomore Brad Cichosz converted a steal into points to even the contest 18-18.

Senior Kyle Young Jr. converted a three point play to lead 23-20 with 2:15 left in the half.

The 'Beeters closed the half with six straight points culminating with baskets from sophomore Hunter Neibauer and Hannum to lead 26-23 at the break.

The Wildcats opened the second half with six straight points before Neibauer buried a triple to even the game at 29-29.

After a basket by Harlem junior Sam Main gave the Wildcats a 31-29 advantage. The Sugarbeeters rattled off 11 consecutive points beginning with a bucket from junior James Christiansen and concluding with six in a row from junior Brendan Edwards to give Chinook a 40-31 lead.

Cichosz stopped the run with a bucket only to see Chinook respond with baskets from Neibauer and Edwards for a 44-33 advantage.

The Wildcats closed the gap to 46-39 following a jumper Allen and a pair of free throws from Young. Two more free throws from Cichosz narrowed the gap to 46-41 but the Wildcats would get no closer.

Schneider knocked down a pair from the Charity Stripe as did freshman Ethan Bell to help Chinook push the lead back to nine, 50-41.

Baskets from junior Riley Kellam, Schneider and Hannum to close out the contest secured a 58-48 win for the Sugarbeeters.

Schneider finished with 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals in the win.

Hannum added 12 and four assists for the Sugarbeeters. Junior Riley Kellam led the team with eight rebounds.

Turner pushed the lead to 31-28 by halftime with Harmon scoring six more in the second and Main five.
