Embrace leadership at your library: celebrate National Library Week April 8-14

This week, Blaine County Library joins libraries nationwide in celebrating the many ways libraries lead their communities through the transformative services, programs and expertise they offer. April 8-14 is National Library Week, an annual celebration of the life-changing work of libraries, librarians and library workers. Libraries aren't just places to borrow books or study-they're also creative and engaging community centers where people can collaborate using new technologies and develop their skills and passions.

Libraries of all types have long been evolving to meet the needs of the communities they serve. Diverse groups including elected officials, small business owners and students depend upon libraries and the resources they offer. Resources like e-books and technology classes, materials for English-language learners and programs for job seekers are just a few ways libraries and librarians are transforming to lead their communities. Community members can also develop their own leadership skills at the library, with endless opportunity to build skills and confidence through resources and programming.

The library helps lead our community by advocating for widespread access to crucial services and lifelong learning. Libraries level the playing field for people of any age who seek information and access to technologies to improve their quality of life.

Blaine County is celebrating National Library Week by having a drawing for adults and one for kids and doing surveys to see how well we are serving our community. We will have Story Time on Tuesday, a movie on Wednesday afternoon and we will be hosting the next family education class on Thursday.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.

The Quiet Man will be the movie today at 1:00 p.m. in the library meeting room. It is rated not rated and running time is 129 minutes. Everyone is welcome to attend and refreshments will be served. Same Kind of Different as Me will be showing April 18th. We are showing the movies with closed captioning whenever possible. Hopefully this will encourage those who may have difficulties hearing the movies to attend.

We are currently planning our Summer Reading Program and we are looking for some items for crafts. We are in need of empty paper towel rolls and cereal boxes. If you can donate any to the cause we would be grateful!

The Blaine County Library is pleased to be hosting the next class in the family education series being presented by the Blaine County Health Department. Join us on April 12th at 6:00 p.m. in the library meeting room. Tough Topics: Talking with your teen will be the focus that evening. Topics covered will be reproductive health, vaping and tobacco use, evolution of drugs and alcohol use.

Be sure to check out the on-going book sale in the entryway while you are here. You may find something you just can't do without! All proceeds from our book sales go into our memorial fund and are used for special programming and items to enhance the library.
