April 25, 2018

his coming weekend has several entertainment options for locals. The Ecumenical Echoes, the local hand bell choir, will hold their final recital for this season. The hand bells will perform at 2pm at the Presbyterian Church in Chinook. The recital is free and all are welcome.

Looking for a chance to throw off some of the effects of a hard winter and tough spring? There are several events coming up the weekend of April 27- 29 that might do the trick. It's also a way to support the programs the sponsoring groups provide in the community.

The Montana Actors Theatre (MAT) is a Havre-based community theatrical group. Many Blaine Countians have acted in and attended MAT productions at MSU-Northern's stage facility. Now MAT is coming to Chinook with a two night run of "Rugburns" on Friday and Saturday night. The play was written by MAT's Artistic Director Jay Pyette. He's the founder of MAT and a Chinook native.

"Rugburns" toured Montana a few years ago and is making a return as a dinner theater production with a four night run at the Havre Eagles Club. On April 27 and 28 the dinner theater will come to the Chinook Eagles Club. The dinner theatre presentation is being produced by Bear Paw Mountain Outfitters. There may still be some tables for eight available. Find ticket information at mtactors.com.

Also on Friday, the 27th, the Blaine County Fair Foundation is presenting comedian Sean McBride. McBride, from New York, is on his way to Billings for a performance that helps support four local non-profits in the Billings area. McBride was able to schedule a show in Chinook for one evening. The show will begin at 7pm at the Commercial Building at the fairgrounds. Tickets are $10 each and available at the door. Some VIP tables may still be available. Call or text 390-2651 to inquire about reserving a VIP table.

On Sunday, April 29, JUMP (Chinook community youth group for 7th to 12th graders) will host its annual Ultimate Salad Bar to support a mission trip to Green Bay, Wisconsin this coming summer. In Green Bay JUMP will be working with a youth group directed by the sister of Lacy Shimmel, a Young Adult Volunteer currently working in Chinook. The luncheon will be held in Wallner Hall and runs from 11:30am to 1:30pm. A freewill donation will be appreciated.

Also on Sunday at 2pm the Ecumenical Echoes will present their last recital of the season. The recital takes place at the Chinook Presbyterian Church. There is no cost for the recital, everyone is welcome and refreshments will be served.
