Turner closes out 2017-18 school year with Awards Ceremony

The 2017-2018 Turner High School Awards Ceremony was held recently at the Turner School Gymnasium. Melanie Watkins gave a warm welcome to students in grades 7-12, parents, teachers, and board members.

The Extra Curricular Awards were announced first. Mr. Russ McKenna started off the event by announcing the Academic All State awards. Those receiving this award were: Sarah Billmayer, Brandy Calvert, Raegan Conlan, Rylee Conlan Shyan Krass, Melanie Watkins, Brooke Reed, Eddie Harmon, Jack Harmon, Tracer Heilig, and Cody Welsh. McKenna then recognized three students who received Scholar Athlete awards. They were Sarah Billmayer, Brandy Calvert, and Jack Harmon.

Zach Holland, Head Boys Basketball Coach, and Assistant Coach, Dylan Welsh, presented basketball . They are as follows: 6th man award: Austin Welsh; Most Improved player: Shane Kimmel; Most Assists, steals, and rebounds: Cody Welsh; Best Free throws: Jack Harmon and Shane Kimmel; Best Offensive Player: Cody Welsh; Mr. Hustle: Eddie Harmon

First Team All Conference Players: Cody Welsh and Eddie Harmon.

Those receiving a T: Shay Humphreys and Trever Kimmel

Key Captains: Cody Welsh and Tracer Heilig. Managers: Ryan Doyle and Chantry Jorgenson. Bar Pins: Ethan Heilig, Kurt Calvert, Shane Kimmel, Austin Welsh, Jack Harmon, Cody Welsh and Tracer Heilig, Eddie Harmon.

Everyone was presented a Tornado Shirt as a special gift for their contributions to the team.

Next on the program was Girls' Head Basketball coach, Jennifer Baird, and Assistant Coach, Darci Ammen. They presented to the following students: 4 year letters: Raegan Conlan, Rylee Conlan, and Melanie Watkins; Third year: Sarah Billmayer; 2nd Year Bars: Brandy Calvert, and Shyan Krass; First Year T's: Brooke Reed, Laci Maloney, and Lacey Hickel; Managers: Dakota Krass and Ryanne Briere

Three Captains: Raegan Conlan, Rylee Conlan, and Melanie Watkins; Most Rebounds: Shyan Krass; Most Assists: Sarah Billmayer; Free Throws: Shyan Krass; 6th man: Brandy Calvert; Miss Defense: Sarah Billmayer; Miss Offense: Shyan Krass; Miss Hustle: Raegan Conlan, Raegan Conlan, and Melanie Watkins; Most Improved: Brandy Calvert; MVP: Sarah Billmayer

Mrs. Shelly Harmon then presented the National Honor Society members. Officers were recognized: President: Stacie Cornell; Vice President: Melanie Watkins; Secretary: Raegan Conlan; Treasurer: Tracer Heilig; Student Council Rep: Rylee Conlan; New Members who received a plaque: Sarah Billmayer and Jack Harmon.

Cindy Cowan, Pep Club Adviser, then presented Pep Club awards to the officers: President: Cody Welsh; V.P. Sarah Billmayer; Secretary: Melanie Watkins; Treasurer: Tracer Heiilig.

The Pep Club then presented Chet and Leesha Wolery with the Traveling Fan Award for attending the most games of the 2017-2018 school sports season. They were presented a plaque and personalized stadium seats. Thanks to them for being such dedicated fans throughout the season, including those terrible winter months!

Elissa Zellmer, Student Council Adviser, presented the Student Council officers with awards: President: Eddie Harmon; Vice President: Clayton Krass; Secretary: Melanie Watkiins; Treasurer: Tracer Heilig; Freshman: Shyan Krass and Shane Kimmel.

Those who were selected for the top 10 meet were: Cody Welsh, Eddie Harmon, Jack Harmon, and Sarah Billmayer.

Most Improved for Girls: Shyan Krass. Boys Most Improved: Jack Harmon. Boys High Point: Cody Welsh. Girls High Point: Rylee Conlan

Those who went on to State were Eddie Harmon, Cody Welsh, Jack Harmon, Clayton Krass, Sarah Billmayer, and Shyan Krass.

The Academic Awards were then presented to the following: Mrs. April Fox presented the Outstanding Art Student to Jack Harmon.

Mrs. Heather Jorgenson presented the Outstanding English Student to Brandy Calvert.

Mr. Zach Holland presented the Outstanding History Award to Tracer Heilig.

Then, Mrs. Michelle Keller presented the Math Awards for the year. The students who placed in high standings for the Math Contest held in Havre earlier this spring were: Honorable Mention: Brandy Calvert, Kurt Calvert, and Eddie Harmon. Superior Award: Jack Harmon received this excelling award for two different divisions. Top Math Student of the Year: Eddie Harmon.

Mrs. Elissa Zellmer presented the Junior High Students with Math Awards. Those who attended the Math Contest and placed in high standings were: Honorable Mention: Chantry Jorgenson, Laci Maloney Superior Award: Lacey Hickel. Top Math Student of the Year: Lacey Hickel.

Mrs. Angie Hawley presented the top SCIENCE awards to the following students: State Science Fair students were: Jack Harmon, Shyan Krass, Lacey Hickel, and Brooke Reed. The 2018 Air Force Award was presented to Austin Welsh. The 2018 American Psychological Award was presented to Shane Kimmel. The Outstanding Exhibit was presented to Ethan Heilig.

The Top Junior High Science Student of the Year was presented to Laci Maloney. The Top High School Science Student of the Year was presented to Tracer Heilig.

The Year Book awards were presented by Mr. McKenna as Mrs. Kayla Fouts was unable to attend. Those receiving awards were: First year: Shane Kimmel, Brooke Reed, Ethan Heilig, and Jack Harmon. Second year: Sarah Billmayer. Fourth year: Eddie Harmon and Stacie Cornell.

B.P.A. Awards: Stacie Cornell, Eddie Harmon, Tracer Heilig, Shyan Krass, Austin Welsh, Ethan Heilig, and Brooke Reed.

The 2017-2018 Pep Club Award was recently presented to Chet and Leesha Wolery of Turner. The couple traveled to the most games throughout the sports season and were acknowledged for their dedication.

They were recognized at the 2018 awards ceremony held recently at the Turner School Gymnasium. Although Chet couldn't make it due to farming, Leesha proudly accepted the award.

A closing and thanks for attending the ceremony was addressed by Cody Welsh, Pep Club President.
