ary Garthwait, pictured during a lunch break at The Antiques Mall in Stevensville, is credit with first presenting the idea for the 50 Mile Garage Sale. Garthwait got the idea while riding a motorcycle in the southeast. "Now in our fourth year," he said, "we average about 300 registered sellers each year, with around 60% returning from the year before." The event is operated totally by volunteers and all funds raised from sellers' entry fees go to help promote the event. Sellers offer their wares from Lolo, south, to Darby, a 50-mile stretch.
