Grasshoppers are not just a recent problem for farmers and ranchers. In the 1930's locals built these "spreaders" from plan provided by the USDA. Each day landowners would gather to mix bait that included sawdust, wheat bran, banana oil and either arsenic or strychnine. It's said most dead grasshoppers were run over rather than poisoned.
