Each month the Cancer Support Group in Chinook meets to hear a topic related to the challenges surrounding cancer from survivors, caregivers, researchers, medical professionals and patients. Performers and stage hands pose after the final performance of "The Snow Queen." The Missoula Children's Theatre adaptation of the fairy tale was staged under the direction of two traveling actor/directors with local school children as performers. This was only the second time "The Snow Queen" was performed outside the Missoula area. Frank Billmayer was the first candidate in Blaine County to file for an office in the upcoming 2018 election. Filing opened at 8 am on January 11 and Billmayer filed paperwork as a Republican (R) candidate for Sheriff shortly after 8 am. Deputy Clerk and Recorder Laurie Rigg said four more candidates filed for county offices during opening day of filing. On January 1, 2018 Hilary (Krass) Richman and her husband, Tim, became the new owners of the Milk River Pharmacy located on the south side of Harlem along Highway 2. The pharmacy was started in 2008 by Kelcey and Nancy Diemert of Chinook. Regarding the sale to Hilary and Tim, the Diemerts said, "It was always our plan for Hilary to eventually own and operate the pharmacy." Seventeen year old Jeremy Tincher was found deceased in a field near mile post 426 along US Hwy 2 in the morning hours on January 11, 2018. Jeremy was reported to be last observed walking along the highway between Harlem, MT and Fort Belknap the evening of January 10, 2018. He was not appropriately dressed for the extremely cold temperatures and he succumbed to hypothermia and exposure. Over the past few weeks, Bill and Mary Hake have been to Great Falls to visit Charlie Shanefelter while he was in hospice. Since his passing, they have been to visit Sally at her home in Turner. The Chinook High School Cheerleaders held their annual Cheer Camp this past Saturday and then performed for the crowd during halftime of the Chinook versus Turner Varsity girls basketball game. Until her retirement on December 31, Sandi Boardman had more years of service than any other current Blaine County employee. Antonio Castillo Jr (48) of Harlem/ Fort Belknap died as a result of hypothermia and exposure to extremely frigid temperatures on 12/29/2017. Mr. Castillo was residing in an aged bumper pull type camper trailer with an insufficient heat source for the sub-zero ambient temperatures. The manner of death has been determined to be accidental.
