March is Red Cross Month

February 28, 2018

The American Red Cross invites the community to join its lifesaving mission by giving blood this March in celebration of Red Cross Month.

Our upcoming blood drive on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Wallner Hall has a collection goal of 48. Think about all of the lives we can touch by signing up to donate.

Blood is a vital resource, one which cannot be manufactured. Only people can supply blood, so patients depend on donors like you and me. The Red Cross must collect more than 13,000 blood donations every day for patients in need. When you give blood, good things happen. Your donation may give more life to kids fighting cancer, older adults battling chronic illnesses or accident victims with traumatic injuries. If you are unable to donate, do you know someone who can? Do you know someone who has never donated before? Please encourage them to make an appointment to donate with you, or, accompany them to the drive if you yourself are not able to donate.

Only one hour of your time. One pint of your blood. To save the lives of three.

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Remember, any healthy person age 18 (or age 16 or 17 with a signed parental consent) or older and weighing at least 110 pounds is eligible and encouraged to donate blood.

If you would like to make an appointment but have not done so, you can go on-line at redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-733-2767 (1-800-REDCROSS).

For those with an appointment, you can save up to 15 minutes at your donation by completing Rapid Pass and the health history online the day of the drive. All you have to do is visit redcrossblood.
