“Libraries Rock!” is the theme for the upcoming Summer Reading program at the library. Each summer the library offers an opportunity for children ages preschool through grade 6 to join in the Summer Reading program to keep their reading skills sharp, to enjoy reading new books, to take part in fun weekly programs and to earn prizes! Registration opens May 29. Please stop by the library to sign up or you may also register on Facebook.

To kick off Summer Reading families are invited to attend the “Libraries Rock!” Family Fun Night on Wednesday, May 30, 6:30-8:00 P.M. at the library. This evening will include stories, games, activities and snacks! Children must be accompanied by at least one parent/caregiver and registration for Summer Reading can be done this evening.

The library is once again offering a chance for adults to join in the Summer Reading fun by playing the “Letter by Letter” game. Pick up your game sheet at the library beginning May 29. This contest will continue until the end of August. You may win a $50 Visa Gift Card!


To go with the “Libraries Rock!” theme the library will be hosting Musical Movie Nights each Thursday in June at 5:00 P.M. These movies will be family friendly. Preschool children must be accompanied by an adult. The first movie June 7 will be “Coco” rated PG and lasting for 1 hour and 45 minutes. Everyone is invited!

A new thriller by Jack Carr is “The Terminal List.” Navy SEAL Lieutenant Commander James Reece’s entire unit is killed in an ambush along with the aircrew sent in to rescue them. On the day of his homecoming loved ones closest to him are murdered. Realizing this was a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of his own government, Reece vows to avenge the deaths of his family and teammates.

“High Voltage” by Karen Marie Moning once again takes readers into the world of “immortal Faerie and ancient feuds, secrets and sacrifices, all connected by a mythical red thread.”

Elizabeth Smart was abducted as a teenager and held captive by religious fanatic Brian David Mitchell and his wife, Wanda Barzee. Now years later Smart has become a wife, mother, and president of the Elizabeth Smart Foundation. In this work “Where’s There Hope” Smart shares the lessons she learned to answer the question ‘How do you find the hope to go on?’ She also includes conversations with other well-known people who have overcome adversity to find the way back to hope.

“Every Note Played” is by Lisa Genova. Richard received standing ovations after his flawless performances as a concert pianist. That was eight months ago. Now afflicted with ALS Richard’s right arm is paralyzed and he knows his left arm will go next. Three years ago Richard and Karen’s marriage failed. When Richard is no longer able to live on his own, Karen becomes his caregiver. As Richard’s life fades both he and Karen try to seek redemption and forgiveness before it is too late.

Other new titles include “Truth or Dare” by Fern Michaels, “Lake Silence” by Anne Bishop, and “A Dangerous Game” by Heather Graham.

The library will be closed Memorial Day, May 28. The library board will meet for its regular meeting Wednesday, May 30, 9 A.M.
