Harlem Library

July 18, 2018

Louise Nissen was our special guest this week. She brought her guitar and sang songs with the children. She also talked about the parts of a guitar and how it is played. The children then decorated their own paper guitars. Here they are "rocking out!"

Thanks to everyone who attended the Friends of the Library Community Appreciation Summer Fun Event. It was a great way to spend a summer afternoon. Congratulations to Andrea Hansen, Havre, who won the adult door prize and to Ozzy Baker who won the door prize for children. Thanks, too, to Jack Young, our guest author, for selling and signing his new book. He has another one coming out soon so stay tuned as we will have a special event to celebrate both his books!

Congratulations to Bridger Hawley who won the gift certificate to the Buzz Zone in the Summer Reading signup drawing. The summer reading program concludes at the end of July. The Reading Club for grade school children will meet two more times, July 19 and July 26, at 1 P.M. Children have until August 3 to return their reading record sheets to earn prizes and to enter their names into the drawing for the grand prizes. The "Letter by Letter" game for adults continues until the end of August.

A new cookbook to peruse is "Magnolia Table: A Collection of Recipes for Gathering" by Joanna Gaines of HGTV's show "Fixer Upper." Included are recipes that celebrate bringing people together from breakfast to dessert.

"All the Beautiful Lies" is written by Peters Swanson. When Harry Ackerson returns home following the death of his father he finds himself falling under the spell of his stepmother, Alice, and newcomer Grace McCowan, whom he suspects has some connection to his family. Harry's growing fear leads him to believe these two women are hiding dangerous and deadly secrets. Then someone else turns up dead.

Robyn Carr is the author of "The Family Gathering." Dakota Jones is at a crossroads in his life after leaving the military. He goes to Sullivan's Crossing where his brother and sister both live hoping to find some direction. As the new man in town Dakota finds himself on everyone's radar- especially the single women. When all the Jones siblings gather for a family wedding they come to realize that family are the people who see you for who you really are, warts and all.

Bestselling author Richard Paul Evans has written "The Forgotten Road," the second installment in the trilogy about Charles James and his pilgrimage across Route 66 to find redemption.

"I'll Be Gone in the Dark" by Michelle McNamara is the true story of one woman's obsessive search for the Golden State Killer. "The Restless Wave" is the autobiography by John McCain with Mark Salter.

"The Good Pilot Peter Woodhouse" is by well-known author Alexander McCall Smith. Set in WWII we meet Val Eliot, a young woman who is working on an English farm. She meets Mike, stationed on a nearby U.S. Air Force Base. Val rescues a Border Collie named Peter Woodhouse and gives him to Mike for safe keeping. Soon the dog becomes Dog First Class and Val becomes Mike's fiancée. But the danger of war soon affects them all when Peter Woodhouse brings Ubi, a German corporal into their orbit.

The Book Challenge for July is to read a book from a genre you don't usually read. The library board meets July 27, 9 A.M. in the library meeting room.

Remember the library is a great place to keep cool on these hot summer days. Read a newspaper or magazine, spend time at the coloring table, enjoy free Wi-Fi or read a good book!
