The Incredibles are joining the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to encourage the public to obtain a free library card as Honorary Chairs of Library Card Sign-up Month this September. The Incredibles will use their superpowers to remind families, students and people of all ages that signing up for a library card is a great step toward a truly super lifestyle.

Library Card Sign-up Month is a time to highlight the supportive role libraries and librarians play in transforming lives and communities through education. Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to utilize libraries as a source of lifelong learning.

Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the ALA and libraries unite together in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card. Stop in today, get a library card and use it!

Fall programs have officially begun! Me Before You will be the movie today at 1:00 p.m. in the library meeting room. Refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome to attend. If anyone has a request for a movie, just let us know. You can also put in a request with Marlene at the Senior Center. Story Time is on Tuesdays 10:30 a.m. LEGO Club will begin September 13th at 3:30 p.m. and is open to kids in grades K through 6.

Monday September 17th Barbara Lafantz, the author of “A Ranch on People’s Creek” will be at the library to do a book discussion at 2:00 P.M. Barbara became interested in genealogy after her daughter, Sharon, became immersed in it. Barbara’s book includes information about the Denison Germans and the beginning of the sheep business around Cleveland from the writing of Dorothy Miller Stowe. She shares stories written by Herb Kimball, who owned the Cleveland Hotel before her father. The book also contains information from books written by Jim Halseth, the father of her daughter. Barbara notes in her book that she will always be from Cleveland even though about everything she knew has been torn down. Mark your calendars and plan to attend this discussion about local history.
