Henry and Ruby Brockie Celebrate 70 years of Marriage

Henry or "Prince" as most people know him, at 89 years old is the longest living of the Brockie family. He is the son of Clarence and Mary Fox Brockie and grandson of Belknap and Rebecca Fox and Old Man Brockie and Plume. He has many fond memories of growing up at the old Brockie place at the foot of the Little Rocky Mountains. Prince received his Aaniinin names, Say E Wus Hoth, Weasel Horse from Tall Jack and Dabi Dah Neetha, Crop-Eared Horse, from Curly Head.

Ruby is 86 years old and the daughter of Dorrance Blackwolf and Edna Warrior Ball, the granddaughter of Ben and Mayme Horsemen and Angela Deafy and Warrior. She was raised by her great grandmother Coming Daylight, "Gramma Warrior" until she was 9 years old. She has many stories of spending summers camped in a wall tent with her grandmother. Ruby received her name K/Gutsut, (Black Hair) from Gramma Warrior.


Weasel Horse and Black Hair are the longest living elder Aaniiih couple. Their greatest pride is their ten children and their over 80 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Throughout their lives both have stressed the importance of education, hard work and family. Through these expectations the family has experienced many firsts: daughter Marcie Angela was the first child to achieve a bachelor's degree; Clarena Mary, the first to achieve a master's degree and Teresa Nellie the first to achieve a Doctor of Philosophy degree; Charles Ereaux the first grandchild to achieve a bachelor's degree and Collette Werk, the first great-grandchild to achieve a bachelor's degree. Clarena, a past Montana State Legislator, has worked for 18 years as the Dean of Student Affairs at Aaniih Nakoda College.


After many productive years working for the Indian Health Service, son Henry Michael retired from Indian Health Service, and now continues to run the business established by his beloved son, "Ted's Rain Gutters". Son Stormy, earned a degree from the Southwestern Poly-Technic Institute in Culinary Arts retired from the Harlem School District after many years and now works for the Fort Belknap Tribes Senior Citizens Program.

Daughter Lorraine Gail, retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs after 30 years; daughter Susan Carol retired from Indian Health Service; Leslie Lynn has worked for the Billings Area Indian Health Service for 39 years; Helena Ruth works for Fort Belknap Indian Health Service; Teresa Brockie is an Assistant Professor at John's Hopkins University School of Nursing. The babies, Marcie and Kimberly both work for Aaniiih Nakoda College. In total, Henry and Ruby have 46 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. To make the family complete they have two adopted sons Billie (Fredericka) Lamere and Joe Brockie, and two adopted daughters Gloria (Cal) Gone and Robyn Hawk.

Through the years the family has enjoyed many great memories around annual gatherings such as picking berries, branding calves, and camping at the Hays Pow-Wow. On this very special occasion of their 70th wedding anniversary their family gives them honor, appreciation, much love and admiration. GinnyHayats!

The children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of Henry and Ruby Brockie invite you to a celebration to honor their parents' 70th wedding anniversary Friday September 21. The celebration will take place at the St. Paul's Mission Recreation Center at 4:00 pm. It will be a happy time of reminiscing and telling stories, sharing a meal and showing a grateful appreciation for their parents.
