Finley's win Mens League Championship, Chinook whips Beaver Creek

Chris Adkins, Jeff Finley, Richard Cronk and Jay Eslick of Finley's Food Farm captured the 2018 Men's League Championship last Wednesday after defeating New Concept Lawn Care in the 18 Hole Championship.

The Chinook Men's League concluded its 2018 season last Wednesday with Finley's Food Farm claiming the championship defeating New Concept Lawn Care in the 18 hole finale.

The Chinook Men's League included fifteen teams from Havre, Chinook and Harlem, with nearly 100 players playing on one of the teams or as a substitute. The top eight teams during the 14 week regular season advanced to the playoffs and competed in a single elimination tournament.

Finley's Food Farm, consisting of Chris Adkins, Jeff Finley, Richard Cronk and Jay Eslick finished the regular season as the number six seed. After winning their quarterfinal match they defeated Triple Dog Brewery (Matt Williams, Charlie Hergesheimer, Todd DePriest and Jim Gallus) on the last hole to advance to the Championship.

New Concept Lawn Care finished the regular season as the number one team. Team members include, Gabe Harry, Troy Azure, Kendal Harwood and Kody Farmer. After defeating the Aero Bar in the quarterfinals, they defeated Richman Insurance (Don Richman, Marty Dirden, Joe Shupe and Don Swenson to reach the championship.


The championship match consisted of 18 holes, played nine holes at a time. Finleys held a comfortable lead after the front nine and held on the back nine to win the 2018 Chinook Mens League Championship.

In the consolation final it was Triple Dog Brewery defeating Richman Insurance to finish third this season.

Chinook defeats Beaver Creek

The Chinook Golf Course and the Beaver Creek Golf Course met again for the chance to hoist 'The Cup'. Last fall the two courses resumed a competition that had been held for many, many years.


A traveling trophy was presented to the course that won each year. The competition included Prairie Farms and Harlem at one point or another and prior to 2017 was last played in the early 2000's. Last September it was Beaver Creek winning the competition 20.5 - 19.5 to regain the Cup.

Twenty players are chose by Team Captains to represent their respective course. For Chinook the team captain was Mike Seymour and for Beaver creek it was Robbie Gomke.

The teams played each other in a format similar to the Ryder Cup played between the United States and Europe every two years. Matches were played straight up, no handicap.

For the first nine holes teams competed in a Best Ball format where each match consisted of two players from each team playing against one another. The player who had the better score versus the opposing teams best score would win the hole. The team that was ahead after nine holes won a point for their team. In Best Ball Chinook defeated Beaver Creek 8.5 - 1.5.


The second nine holes was Alternate Shot. Team members had to play the same ball tee to green while alternating who took the next shot. After nine holes the team with the advantage again won a point for their coarse. In alternate Shot, Chinook defeated Beaver Creek 9-1.

The final nine holes was played as Match Play, player versus player, straight up, no handicap. In match play Chinook defeated Beaver Creek 12.5 - 7.

The Chinook Golf Course team included players from all over Blaine County and included Matt Frye, Troy Azure, Mike Seymour, Lane Seymour, B.J. Schellin, Brent Schellin, Jake Diemert, Jay Eslick, Dennis Downs, Ron Gauthier, Joe Shupe, Todd DePriest, Kris Parsons, Ben Parsons, Jeff Finley, Kody Farmer, Pat Whitcom, A.J. LaMere, Danyl Acosta and Chris Adkins.

Harlem Merchant Tournament rescheduled for Saturday, October 13

Beaver Creek's Robbie Gomke addresses his tee shot on Hole 1 this past Saturday as his Beaver Creek team challenged the Chinook Golf Course team in a Ryder Cup like event. Chinook won the Cup 29.5 - 9.5.

Th Harlem Merchant Tournament originally scheduled for October 6 has been moved to this Saturday due to weather.

Registration closes at 9:00 a.m. with tee time set for 10:00 a.m. sharp.
