Thanks to everyone who attended the Friends of the Library annual membership meeting. We had a great crowd and the support is greatly appreciated. If you missed the meeting you may become a Friend of the Library by paying your annual dues of $10 at the library or to PO Box 172, Turner, 59542.

Mark your calendars now for the Friends of the Library Holiday Wine and Cheese fundraiser which will be December 5.

The new selection for The Book Club is “Pachinko” by Min Jin Lee which may be picked up the week of October 22-26. The first discussion will be October 29.

The library board of trustees will hold their regular monthly meeting Wednesday, October 24, 4:15 P.M.

Our children’s and family programming is in full swing! Books and Babies meets on Tuesdays at 10 A.M. for infants, toddlers and preschoolers as well at their parents/caregivers. The After School Story Hour is held on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 for children ages 4 through grade 5. Lego Club for all ages meets on Thursdays from 4:30-5:30.


Are you keeping up with the 2018 Reading Challenge? If you have 52 books read by the end of the year you will be entered to win a fabulous gift basket which includes a $25 gift card. The monthly Book Challenge for October is to read a book endorsed by someone you admire. Let us know the title of the book when you finish it and you may win a $10 gift certificate from a local business.

“Leave No Trace” is a new novel by Mindy Mejia. In the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota a father and son disappear from their campsite. They are presumed dead until ten years later the son appears unable to communicate and showing violent tendencies. At the psychiatric hospital where he is sent therapist Maya Stark tries unsuccessfully to make inroads with her patient. She feels a connection to the young man as she too has secrets from her past.


Bestselling author Sandra Brown has written “Tailspin.” Fearless pilot Rye Mallett flies cargo to far-flung locations. When he is hired to deliver a mysterious black box to a Dr. Lambert in northern Georgia he doesn’t ask questions. But as he approaches the landing strip he is met with dense fog as well an a sabotage attempt on his plane that causes him to crash land. He is met by Dr. Brynn O’Neal who claims she was sent to pick up the box. Soon Rye and Brynn are on a forty-eight hour race to deliver the box before time runs out.

A new nonfiction book is “Small Animals: Parenthood in the Age of Fear” by Kim Brooks. In this memoir, Books recounts the events following a split-second decision to leave her four-year-old son in the car while she ran into the store. She was gone only a few minutes and her son was still happily playing a game when she returned. What she didn’t know was someone filmed her and would send the video to the police. What follows is the story of Brooks investigation of the role America’s culture of fear plays in parenthood.

On his usual drive home from work Joe Lynch he unexpectedly sees his wife’s car ahead of him. Deciding to follow her, Joe witnesses her secret rendezvous with another man. The meeting will tear two families apart and leave an innocent man accused of murder. “Lies” is by T.M. Logan.

A new biography is “Betty Ford: First Lady, Women’s Advocate, Survivor, Trailblazer” by Lisa McCubbin.

Other new titles for your reading pleasure are “The Last Thing I Told You” by Emily Arsenault and “Need to Know” by Karen Cleveland.
