If you missed the first meeting of our book club, Free People Reading Freely, you have plenty of time to stop in and choose a book to read for before the next meeting! We have multiple copies of the Top 10 Most Challenged or Banned Book in 2017. The next meeting will be Tuesday November 12th at 7:00 p.m. in the library meeting room. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The movie today will be “Ladies in Lavender” at 1:00 p.m. in the library meeting room. The movie is rated PG-13 and it runs for one hour and 44 minutes. Everyone is welcome to attend and refreshments will be served. “The Shack” will be the movie next Wednesday.

We have several new books available this week from some of our patron’s favorite authors and one from an author new to our library. “The Next Person You Meet in Heaven” is the sequel to the number one bestseller “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” by Mitch Albom. Albom tells the story of Eddie’s heavenly reunion with Annie—the little girl he saved on earth—in an unforgettable novel of how our lives and losses intersect. “Desperate Measures” is the latest Stone Barrington novel by Stuart Woods. “Every Breath” by Nicholas Sparks is a story about a chance encounter that becomes a touchstone for two vastly different individuals, transcending decades, continents, and the bittersweet workings of fate. “Shell Game” by Sara Paretsky is the latest V.I. Warshawski novel. “Black Diamond Fall” by Joseph Olshan is a rich, literary mystery based and united by two real events that occurred at Middlebury College; the disappearance of a student during winter break; and the vandalism of the Robert Frost Homestead located on one of the outer campuses.

We have one non-fiction book ready for checkout this week. “Them: Why We Hate Each Other and How to Heal” by Ben Sasse is an intimate and urgent assessment of the existential crisis facing our nation. In Them, bestselling author and U.S. senator Ben Sasse argues that, contrary to conventional wisdom, our crisis isn’t really about politics. It’s that we’re so lonely we can’t see straight and it bubbles out as anger. There’s a path forward, but reversing our decline requires something radical: a rediscovery of real places and human-to-human relationships. Even as technology nudges us to become rootless, Sasse shows how only a recovery of rootedness can heal our lonely souls.

Story Time is Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Kids of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend. Middle School Hangout, for kids in grades 6-8 is held on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. LEGO Club is Thursday afternoons from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and is open to kids in grades K-6. Younger kids are welcome to attend with an adult.

Our display table has a wide variety of spooky books available for checkout for the month of October.

The Blaine County Library Board of Trustees will hold their regular monthly meeting Wednesday October 31, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the library meeting room.
