The Chinook Sugarbeeter Volleyball team completed an outstanding season on the volleyball court this past weekend after finishing third at the Northern C Divisional in Belt.

The team accomplished quit a lot this season, having blazed through the conference schedule undefeated to capture the District 6C-East regular season crown.

The Sugarbeeters then parlayed that momentum into a District 6C-East Championship a week ago, earning them the 6CE No. 1 Seed at the Northern C Tournament.

The team began the tournament with a match against the 7C No. 2 Fort Benton Longhorns. The two teams were very familiar with each other, having split their regular season match ups and facing each other at the Longhorns mid-season tournament.

The opening set was all anyone could expect with each team matching the others effort every step of the way. After holding leads of 24-23, 25-24 and 26-25 the 'Beeters fell29-27 in a marathon first set.

The Longhorns started fast in set number two and cruised to a 25-15 second set win to go up 2-0 and seize control of the match.

Head Coach Paula Molyneaux rallied the troops and the team responded in a big way, showing a ton of heart and finishing the match strong.

The 'Beeters picked up a kill from senior Kourtney Hanson to get the offense started on the right track in set number three and the girls were able to maintain a slim lead.

Sophomores Ginger Hauer and Lily Surber each served up and Ace and Hanson ended the set with a Kill for 25-19 Sugarbeeter set win.

After jumping out to a 7-3 lead in set number four, senior Megan Molyneaux slammed home a kill and senior Rachel Gunderson served up an Ace for the 'Beeters to keep the momentum going. Sophomore Hailey Bell recorded three consecutive kills to extend the 'Beeter advantage to 18-7.

The Longhorns stormed back but a kill from sophomore Delaney Kellam gave the 'Beeters a 23-21 lead and two unforced errors from Fort Benton gave the Sugarbeeters a 25-22 fourth set win.

The Longhorns took advantage of some unforced 'Beeter errors to race out to a 9-0 lead in set number five, but these Sugarbeeters kept fighting and took advantage of several Longhorn miscues to climb back in the match. A kill from bell pulled Chinook back to within 12-9 and a kill from Molyneaux led to a 15-12 set win and a 3-2 match win for the 'Beeters.

Bell led the attack with 13 kills, Molyneaux added 11 kills and Hanson 10 in the win. Hauer set up the hitters with 26 assists and senior Lincy Johnson dug up 16 balls to pace the back row.

The team then took on the Simms Tigers in the final match of the day. Chinook stormed out of the gate winning nearly every point from the get go, leading 15-3 after just 18 serves. The 'Beeters coasted to a 25-10 opening set win.

The Tigers came in as the top seed out of the District 6C-West and answered with a 25-18 set win to even the match 1-1.

In a back and forth match it was the Sugarbeeters turn to carry the momentum, picking up a hard fought 25-23 third set win to go up 2-1.

In a roller coaster of a match the Tigers would again answer the call with a 25-17 fourth set win the force the 'Beeters second five set match of the day.

In the deciding set Chinook maintained a slim lead at the end and pulled off a 15-11 fifth set win to earn them a spot in the undefeated match Friday night.

Hanson led the 'Beeter attack with 15 kills and three aces. Hauer recorded 26 assists and dug up 14 balls for the defense. Hanson also picked up four blocks to power the defense at the net.

The 'Beeters faced the 7C No. 1 Belt Huskies Friday night and ran into a buzz saw. Chinook fell 25-11 in the opening set. They showed they still had fight left in them with a 25-23 second set win to even the match 1-1. In the end the Huskies would take set number three 25-17 and close out the match with a 25-20 fourth set to win the match 3-1.

Hanson had eight kills in the loss and Molyneaux seven. Hauer recorded 19 assists and Johnson dug up 16 balls. Hanson totaled six blocks and Kellam five.

The 'Beeters then took on the Simms Tigers once again in the third place match Saturday afternoon.

This time it was the Tigers that started fast and maintained control of the momentum, picking up set wins of 25-20, 25-16, 25-22 to win the match 3-0 and end the 'Beeters season.

Hanson slammed home 12 kills in the match, Hauer set the hitters up with 19 assists and Johnson dug up 13 balls. Kellam and Hanson each recorded three blocks in the finale.
