JUMP Youth Group On a Mission to Serve

January 30, 2019

JUMP would like to invite the community to SOUPER BOWL OF CARING. On February 3rd, youth will be serving a Taco Soup lunch starting at 11:30, at Wallner Hall. A free will donation will be taken at the door with 100% of the proceeds going to the Chinook Food Pantry.

Started in 1990 by a simple prayer from a youth group leader: “ Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those who are without a bowl of soup to eat”. Souper Bowl Sunday has grown into a nationwide event turning the “largest weekend of football into the largest weekend of caring.”

While we are excited to tackle another Souper Bowl, there are also plans in the works for other JUMP fundraising events. Proceeds from those going to help fund our Mission team as they travel to serve in Puyallup Washington this summer. Summer 2019 marks the 10th year of mission trips and the beginning of JUMP. Traveling to Puyallup is very significant in our celebration of our 10th year of JUMP as in the summer of 2009 A group from SOTH church in Puyallup traveled to Chinook to serve on their own mission trip. As a direct result from our youth and communities interactions with them, JUMP was “born”.

We are planning our famous Ultimate Salad and Dessert Bar again this year, but the timing is a little different from the past as we are working hard to fit schedules. The date this year is March 31st. Another fun event coming up on May 4th (“May the fourth be with you”) is a Star Wars themed mystery dinner. This promises to be great fun, so be watching for more information on that!

For those who may not know, JUMP is a non-denominational Christ centered youth group for grades 7-12. We meet Wednesday evenings at Wallner Hall from 6:30-8:30. Community service is something our group tries to be involved in regularly, so besides our yearly mission trips, we hold a yearly food drive, collect for community chest, and find other areas of need to participate in each month if possible.
