Havre, MT March 5, 2019: Havre Elks Lodge #1201 recently donated to dictionaries to 3rd grade school children in Hill and Blaine Counties.

Lodge Exalted Ruler Kyle Leeds said: Havre Elks Lodge #1201 was pleased to present the following Hill County Schools. 144 dictionaries to Havre Public Schools, 10 dictionaries to St. Jude's School, 4 dictionaries to Cottonwood School, 10 dictionaries to NorthStar School, 38 Dictionaries to Rocky Boy Schools, and 31 Dictionaries to Box Elder Schools. In Blaine County we were please to present 21 dictionaries to Zurich School."

"According to Leeds, the dictionary project is a core youth activity project that the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks sponsor nationwide. "Locally, our lodge has not participated in this project for many years.

Our lodge secretary Brandy Kurtz suggested we start the project again this year and our lodge enthusiastically supported reigniting this activity on a local level." Leeds said, "When our lodge members delivered these dictionaries to the students in at Lincoln McKinley and St. Jude's Schools the excitement to own and utilize their own dictionary and the thirst for knowledge by the students was heartwarming."

Lodge secretary and project chairwoman Brandy Kurtz says, "Havre Elks Lodge was able to fund the dictionary through donations of our members on giving Tuesday and through the generosity of Hill, Blaine, and Chouteau county residents at a free will donation bake sale we held the week before Christmas at the Atrium in Havre." Kurtz goes on to say, "The dictionary project was such a smashing success that we are making it an annual youth activity in our lodge."

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is celebrating 151 years as the premiere charitable and patriotic organization in America. Locally, Havre Lodge #1201 has 231 members, and was named in 2018 the best fraternal organization in Havre by college radio station KNMC and Havre Area Events Dot Com.
