Harlem junior Brad Cichosz makes his way around the track at the Havre Lions Invitational. Cichosz had a fantastic day, winning both the 1,600 Meter and 3,200 Meter races

Another week is in the books for area thinclads and two athletes have secured a spot at the state meet the end of may.

The addition of state qualifying times and marks in both the Class C and Class B ranks has been well received and currently Chinook senior Megan Molyneaux and Harlem junior L'Tia Lawrence have secured their spot at the state meet.

Molyneaux finished second in the 100 Meter Dash at the Lions Invitational on Saturday, but her time of :13.00 eclipsed the state qualifying standard of :13.16.

Molyneaux won the 200 Meter Dash in :27.15 and that time is just shy of the bench mark time of :26.85.

Lawrence qualified in both distance races Saturday. In the 3,200 Meter race, she completed the eight laps in 11:53.76 to win the event and qualify for the state meet, easily eclipsing the Class B bench mark of 12:26.00.

Lawrence also won the 1,600 Meter race, crossing the finish line in 5:32.17. Lawrence's time also bested the State B standard of 5:34.00.

While those two athletes have punched their tickets to their respective state track and field meets, several other Blaine County athletes are on the verge of accomplishing the same feat.

In the Class C girls 800 Meter Dash, Chinook Senior Kourtney Hanson is within striking distance. Hanson won the 800 Meter race Saturday afternoon with a time of 2:28.15. The Class C State Qualifying time is 2:25.32.

Hanson also finished third in the 400 Meter Dash, crossing the finish line in 1:06.43. Harlem freshman Taya Trottier was sixth with a time of 1:07.83. Trottier also finished sixth in the 800 Meter race, finishing in 2:40.50.

The Sugarbeeters short relay team of freshman Anna Morrow, Hanson, senior Lincy Johnson and Molyneaux fished fourth with a time of :55.23. The 4x400 Meter relay consisted of the same four athletes with Molyneaux leading off, followed by Morrow, Johnson and Hanson.

For the boys, Harlem junior Brad Cichosz had a stellar day on the track, winning both distance races. Cichosz completed eight trips around the track to win the 3,200 Meter race with a time of 10:39.60. His time of 4:56.51 in the 1,600 Meter run also bested the field.

Cichosz is seven seconds off the pace in the 3,200 Meter run and thirteen seconds back in the 1,600 Meters.

Turner senior Cody Welsh is the defending Class C 300 hurdles and finished fourth at the State C in the 110 Meter Hurdles a season ago. Saturday Welsh finished second in the 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of :16.50, just a tenth of a second off the qualifying standard. In the 300 Meter Hurdles, Welsh finished third with a time of :45.08.

Chinook senior Cord Schneider had a great day in the field for the Sugarbeeters.

Schneider won the Shot Put with a heave of 40' 6.25". He later added a fourth place finish in the Discus with a flip of 110'5". Schneider took fifth in the Javelin with a throw of 128'3".
