'Beeters will send 15, Harlem 6 and Turner 4 to State B & C Track and Field Meets

The Harlem Wildcats will send five girls to the State B Track & Field meet at Legends Field in Kalispell this Friday and Saturday. They are (L-R) senior Haylee Johnson, junior L'Tia Lawrence, junior Kristyn Kittson, senior Skylee Dirden and freshman Taya Trottier.

Blaine County will be well represented this weekend at the State C Track in Field Meet at the Laurel Sports Complex in Laurel. The Chinook Sugarbeeters will take 15 athletes to the State C including nine girls and six boys. The Turner Tornadoes will have four athletes in Laurel, two boys, two girls. The Harlem Wildcats will send five girls and one boy to Kalispell to compete at the State B meet.

Some of the best distance runners in the state are included on the Harlem Wildcat roster. Junior L'Tia Lawrence cruised to a pair of first place finishes at the Northern B Divisional in Glasgow on Saturday.

Lawrence won the 1,600 Meter run by nearly twenty seconds with a time of 5:26.70. She then bested the field by forty-five seconds in the 3,200 Meter run, completing the eight laps in 11:43.02. Lawrence will be among the favorites to win both events this weekend in Kalispell.


Harlem junior Brad Cichosz will also be looking for a podium finish in Kalispell. At the Northern B Divisional, Cichosz won the 3,200 Meter race with a time of 10:09.90 and finished second in the 1,600 with a time of 4:46.05.

Joining Lawrence in Kalispell will be senior Skylee Dirden in both the Long Jump and the Triple Jump as well as the 4x400 Meter Relay. Senior Haylee Johnson (Javelin), freshman Taya Trottier (800 Meters, 4x400) and junior Kristyn Kittson.

The Sugarbeeters contingent took a bit of hit at the Northern C after senior Megan Molyneaux suffered a leg injury on her final attempt of the Long Jump in Great Falls last Thursday.

Molyneaux finished fourth in the Long Jump with a career best effort of 15'6". Following the injury she was unable to compete in the 100 or 200 Meter Sprints or run her leg on the relays.


Molyneaux is qualified for the 100 Meter Dash this weekend in Laurel but it will be a race time decision as to whether she competes or not.

The 'Beeters 4x400 Meter relay team of senior Kourtney Hanson, senior Lincy Johnson, sophomore Rebecca Stroh and freshman Anna Morrow came together for a state qualifying effort, finishing sixth with a time of 4:36.18.

Also headed to Billing this weekend will be Hanson in the 400 Meter Run, junior Raynee Hasler in the 3,200 Meter Run, senior Rachel Gunderson (Discus, Javelin), sophomore Jayden Miller (Discus) and freshman Kinley Hamilton (Shot Put).

For the boys, the 'Beeters were led by senior Cord Schneider who will compete in three events in Laurel. Schneider finished third in the Shot Put, fifth in the Discus and tied for third in the High Jump. Senior Trajan Hannum finished second in the 1,600 and fifth in the 800 Meter Race and will run a leg on the 4x400 Meter Relay.


Also headed to Laurel are freshman Toby Niederegger (High Jump, 4x400), junior Sam Dumas (4x400) and freshman Hunter Molyneaux (4x400).

Turner will send junior Sarah Billmayer after she earned a second place finish in the Triple Jump and a sixth place finish in the Long Jump. Sophomore Shyan Krass will also make the trip (Discus).

The Turner boys will be represented by senior Cody Welsh. Welsh finished second in the 300 Meter Hurdles and is the defending state champion in the event. Turner junior Jack Harmon will compete in both the 400 and 800 Meter Runs.
