The regular meeting of the library board of trustees is held today, May 29, at 4:15 P.M. in the library meeting room.

The Summer Reading Program kicks off tonight with “The Universe of Stories” Family Fun Night. Children from Preschool through Junior High and families are invited to an evening of stories, activities, and snacks. Children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Summer Reading registration begins this week for children ages birth to 13. Registration may take place at the library, via email at harlemlib@live.com on our Facebook page. Children will win small prizes for the books they read and grand prizes will be awarded at the end of Summer Reading. Weekly programs are held during the months of June and July. The Read to Me program for children ages birth to preschool is held each Tuesday beginning June 4 at 10:00 A.M. The Readers Club meets every Thursday beginning June 6 at 1:00 P.M. for students grades K-6. Lego Club meets on Thursdays from 4:30-5:30.

The library is also offering a Summer Reading Program for adults and teens. No registration is necessary and participants must be ages 13 and up. Simply read, or listen to, any book or attend a library program. For each book or program fill out an entry ticket and your name will be entered to win a grand prize. This program ends August 2.

If you have completed the Book Challenge for May to read a book about music contact the library so your name can be entered to win a gift certificate from a local business. The Book Challenge for June is to read a book by a deceased author.

“Cemetery Road” is written by Greg Iles. Marshall McEwan is one of the most successful journalists in Washington, D.C. Jessica Strawser is the author of “Forget You Know Me.” In this novel of suspense the wounds of two friends who have grown apart are exposed when a shocking incident is captured during a video chat.

“Cherokee America” is by Margaret Verble. In the years following the Civil War Cherokee America Singer along with her family, neighbors and friends must come together to “avenge crime, outwit federal authorities, and protect their sovereignty” as they attempt to survive on Cherokee lands.

Other new titles include a new romance “Stroke of Luck” by B.J. Daniels, a western “Have Brides, Will Travel” by William w. Johnstone, and the new Oprah Winfrey book “The Path Made Clear: Discovering Your Life’s Direction and Purpose.”
