The library has been approved to be open five more hours per week! We need your input to set our new schedule. Please fill out the hours of operation survey on our Facebook page, the website harlempubliclibrary.org, or at the library. The new hours will take effect in September.

The Book Challenge for August is to read a book with a question for the title. You may win a gift certificate from a local business!

Bestselling author Jamie Ford will be visiting the Harlem Library September 9. There will be a meet and greet including a taco bar from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. provided by The Book Club. Mr. Ford’s presentation begins at 7 P.M. Jamie Ford has written three bestsellers including “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet,” “Songs of Willow Frost,” and “Love and Other Consolation Prizes.” Mr. Ford’s books will be available for purchase and signing. This project is funded in part by a grant from Humanities Montana, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.


New books this week include “The Secret Keeper” by Erica Bauermeister. Emmeline lives with her father on a remote island where she learns about the natural world through her senses. What her father won’t explain are the mysterious scents stored in the walls of their cabin. As Emmeline grows so does her curiosity until she is forced into the real world. There she must unlock the clues to her identity.

“Every Man a Hero” is by Ray Lambert. This firsthand account of D-Day is the true story or a WWII medic who risked his life to save the heroes of Omaha Beach.

Jane Green has written “The Friends We Keep.” Evvie, Maggie, and Topher have been friends since college and swear this friendship would last forever. But by their thirtieth reunion they have lost touch with each other and with their long ago dreams. Being together again may mean a second chance at happiness until a dark secret is revealed.

“The Spies of Shilling Lane” is by Jennifer Ryan. This WWII tale is about village busybody Mrs. Braithwaite who resolves to find her daughter Betty in London. But she discovers Betty hasn’t been seen in days and with the bombs falling who knows what could have happened. Determined to find her daughter Mrs. Braithwaite sets off to find Betty amid danger and death.

M.T. Edvardsson is the author of “A Nearly Normal Family.” In this psychological thriller readers must ask themselves how far they would go to protect the ones they love. A horrific crime makes a nearly normal family question everything they thought they knew about their life and one another.

“The Heart of King” is a new inspirational novel by Jill Eileen Smith. In the world of ancient Israel King Solomon could have anything and any woman he wanted. But did he or the women he loved ever find what they were searching for?

Lego Club meets on Thursdays from 4:30 t0 5:30 P.M. The library board will not meet this month.
