For the past four seasons the Harlem Lady Cat Volleyball program has been on the rise, and after qualifying for the Northern B Divisional the past two seasons the team has reason to be confident heading into the 2019 campaign.

Head Coach, Kim Faulkinberry and her staff, have steadily built up the program numbers through the years and have developed a strong group of athletes within the system, but the Lady Cats have also benefited greatly from the co-op formed with Turner High School. Six girls will add depth to the Lady Cats roster including four at the Varsity level.

Coach Faulkinberry has been leading the Wildcat Volleyball program since 2010 and has 36 girls out this fall. The girls have been busy in the off season, attending camps and showing up regularly to open gyms.

This years varsity roster includes seniors Aspen Baker, Aria Owens, Taeshon Schaeffer, Layla Skidmore, Sarah Billmayer, Nevaeh Spotted Eagle and J'Lynn Stiffarm. Juniors are, Shyan Krass, Brandy Calvert, Alaynee Hawley and Brooke Reed. Freshman Jessica King rounds out the Varsity roster.

Currently the Junior Varsity roster lists: Senior Lailannee Beaumont; Junior Lacie Bell; Sophomores, Laci Maloney, Chloe Messerly, Alexis Cochran, Vanice Little, Avery Collins, Tia Kuntz, CeCe Hegelson and Mariah Messerly. Freshman Aniya Longknife completes the team.

C-Squad team members include Sophomores Sophia Beaumont, Jacy Archambault and Kassy Medrano, junior Brianna Williams and freshman Madison Jackson, Harmany Bigby, Dakota Krass, Keonna Medicine Bear, Mylah Rider, Malea Moore, Lakayla Doney and Mitchrena Begay.

Schaeffer earned All-Conference honors as a setter a season ago and will be counted on to get the offense started again. Coach Faulkinberry states, "Seniors Layla Skidmore, Aria Owens, Sarah Billmayer, Nevaeh Spotted Eagle, Aspen Baker and J'Lynn Stiffarm add experience and juniors Brandy Calvert, Alaynee Hawley, Brooke Reed, and newcomer 6'3" Shyan Krass will add depth." Faulkinberry added, "We have some younger girls that are pushing hard to see playing time possibly at the JV or Varsity level"

Coach Faulkinberry and her team have some big expectations for the upcoming season, "The coaching staff along with all the girls believe that this season could be the best in school's history. We have high expectations going into the season with the amount of experienced and upcoming young talent. We have made it the divisional tournament the past two seasons which is a first in the schools history. Our ladies are wanting more this season, they believe that we could possibly place high in the District and make it back to Divisionals and then we will let the chips fall where they may."

The team has put in the work they feel necessary to achieve their goals, "We have been working hard and the girls are starting to believe in one another. We now just need to work on team chemistry. We have come a long way in four years and plan to continue building the program for years to come. We are basing it on hard work and the best girls will be on the floor to field the best possible team. We want the girls to be part of a great tradition at Harlem High School for years to come,"concluded Faulkinberry.

The Lady Cats will get the season started this Saturday at the Malta Invitational with all three teams seeing action. Harlem's first home match of the season will be on Thursday, September 12 when the Rocky Boy Morning Stars come to town.
