Nez Perce Commemorate 142nd Anniversary of 1877 Flight

October 9, 2019

Each October, the Nez Perce (nimi-pu) Tribe makes its way back to the Bear Paw Battlefield 15 miles south of Chinook to commemorate the final battle of the 1877 flight of their ancestors as they attempted to reach Canada. This humbling event often includes a drum circle a pipe circle, pictured above and testimony from descendants and tribal elders with first hand knowledge past down through the years of what transpired. This past Saturday many were on hand to solemnly pay their respects at this years commemoration.
