Early Registration Is Open for Chinook Volunteer Fire Department Coyote Hunt Hunt set to take place December 6-8

Although the First Annual Chinook Volunteer Fire Department Coyote Hunt won’t take place until December 6-8, early registration is now open, and all proceeds will stay with the local fire department. Registration will close on November 20. The event will feature a gun raffle, door prizes, a Hard Luck Prize, a Smallest Coyote Prize, and a Largest Coyote Prize.
All interested persons who pay the $40 per person entry fee are invited to participate, whether as single hunters or as teams. Teams can consist of up to four people. According to event organizers, because there will be no hunting boundaries for this event, hunters from all counties, near and far, are welcome. All hunters who complete and submit entry forms and fees by November 20 will be entered for a chance to win back their entry fee.
There will be an Open Class and a Calling Class, and prizes will be awarded for the largest and the smallest coyote, as well as for total kills. Any total tally ties will be broken based on the total weight of coyotes checked in. The Largest Coyote Prize is a Thompson Center .223 Rifle.
All hunt participants must be present for a sign-up/check-in on Friday, December 6 between 6:00 and 8:00 at the Chinook Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Building located at 1201 Illinois Street and should remain for a mandatory rules meeting immediately following. Although a full list of rules is available on the Coyote Hunt Facebook event page, rules include no hunting from an aircraft, no spotlighting, and no combining of coyotes with another team. Hunters will also be expected to secure landowner permission when hunting and to abide by other Fish, Wildlife, and Parks hunting rules and regulations regarding properly tagged animals and those that prohibit shooting from county roads or state highways.
About the hunt, one event organizer, Jason Haider, said: “The reason we have these hunts is not to make money or to win prizes, even though that is certainly part of the event. It’s to help out the local ranchers with predator control and to assist the Fish, Wildlife and Parks with management concerns. The hunt will also generate needed funds for the Chinook Volunteer Fire Department.”

In conjunction with the CVFD Coyote Hunt, organizers are also holding a gun raffle. Tickets are available now by contacting Haider or by messaging the event organizers on their Facebook Page, where they will accept Venmo & Paypal as forms of payment. Because only 250 tickets are being sold, interested persons are encouraged to act quickly.
Purchasers will have the opportunity to win a Radical Firearms AR-15 .223 and the choice of a “Custom Hydro-Dip” or “Custom Laser Engraving.” The drawing will be held on December 8, and the owner of the winning ticket need not be present to win.
A dinner and awards ceremony will follow the coyote hunters’ Final Check-In, which is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the Commercial Building on the Blaine County Fairgrounds, 300 Cleveland Road West. A free will donation will be accepted for the meal.
