Shores Floral to Hold Holiday Open House This Sunday

November 13, 2019

Tucked among the traditional Santas, sleighs, snowflakes, and reindeer, shoppers will also find unique and unusual figurines and décor.

This Sunday, November 17, from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Shores Floral and Gift will hold its annual Holiday Open House.

Owner of the floral and gift shop, Bonnie Weber invites everyone to join her and her employees for what she describes as "a day of wonderful food, friendship, and fabulous Christmas displays."

Using products previously purchased by Weber, Tara Hofeldt, an independent wine consultant for WineShop at Home, will be preparing and serving a punch called St. Nick Sipper. Hofeldt has helped Shores with its holiday parties for several years. Cookies and champagne punch will be served all day, with a light lunch provided from noon to 2:00 p.m.

This is Weber's 29th year for hosting the open house in her current location at 304 Indiana Street in Chinook, where her store offers "A touch of old mixed with new, for your home and you." Over the years, the Holiday Open House event has morphed into a customer appreciation gala.

Besides a variety of fresh flowers, greenhouse plants, blooming plants, and dish gardens, the store features antique displays, fresh and permanent floral designs, home décor, greeting cards, a selection of candy and chocolates, and creative gift ideas to suit any style or budget.

Sunday's event, though, will focus on the holidays. People are invited to shop themed trees, snowmen, wooden and glass ornaments, Candles by Terri, and many other Made in Montana products. For example, Shores carries Montana Maiden leather jewelry from Havre designer Jennifer Chase, creator of unique leather accessories; handmade goat milk soap and bath products from Windrift Hill out of Conrad, and various products from the Ennis-based shop, My Home in Montana. Furthermore, a variety of shawls, hats, gloves, and throws featuring bison or horses are also available.

Montanan Terri Meyer makes her hand poured, soy wax candles in small batches in her Hi-Line kitchen. Although Shores carries a wide variety of candle fragrances, Meyer's holiday scents: Cypress and Bayberry, Frosted Juniper, and We Three Kings are in very limited quantities. The Cypress and Bayberry fragrance imitates a walk in an evergreen forest; Frosted Juniper is a blend of fresh evergreens, cooling eucalyptus, and a hint of citrus to create a complex winter scent; and We Three Kings is a warm and rich scent infused with bergamot, coriander, lemon, orange, amber, and patchouli.

In time for the Open House, Meyer will be cooking up a batch of Christmas Hearth candles. That scent burns with a note profile that starts on the top with orange peel, cinnamon, and ginger. Its middle notes include cypress and clove, while pine and fir comprise the base. "It's heavenly," Meyer quipped.

Other popular items at Shores are holiday themed moose figurines, gnomes, sheep, lighted garlands, evergreen swags, and snow-dusted decorations. In addition to the traditional Santas, sleighs, snowflakes, and reindeer, there is even a burro or two.

"Tucked into every imaginable corner, we have something for your holiday decorating or gift-giving needs," Weber said. "We'll have lots of bargain priced items, too, so come out and enjoy the afternoon with us."
