For the first Sugarbeeter Shoutout of the year, here are some Did You Know Items

FERPA: The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education. What this law means is that school systems are required to keep our information private on students. We do not discuss student grades, behaviors and discipline with people other than parents or guardians without written permission.

There are several exceptions to the rule such as mandatory reporting of Child Abuse or criminal activity as examples.

Flashing Bus Lights: In light of the child that was hit and has serious brain injuries in Whitefish, please remember to stop anytime a school bus has flashing lights and the stop arm out. We would like to protect the safety of all of our children and adults.

Academic Activities: Several different school groups have taken some great trips this fall. Our 4th grade class attended the Chief Joseph Battlefield to cap off their unit on the battlefield. FFA attended the National Convention in Indianapolis. We had students attend the Techno Expo in Havre. Student Council attended the State Student Council conference. In several weeks we have Science Olympiad Club traveling to Bozeman.

We have Seven Students attending the Honor and Band Choir in early December. These are just a few examples of some of the activities Chinook Students have taken part in this fall.

Athletics: We had a very good fall in the world of athletics. The junior high football and volleyball teams had very nice season with good participation. High School Football made great strides and ended the season with a nice winning streak. High School Volleyball ended the season with back to back district titles and conference titles. Way to go girls. At this time Junior High Basketball is in session along with speech and drama. We have Wrestling and girls and boys high school basketball starting soon.

Enrollment: Chinook Schools Enrollment is as follows: Meadowlark 178, Hartland 2, Chinook Junior High 57 and High School 106.

Grants: Meadowlark School received grants of $1,225 from Triangle Telephone and $500 from Island Mountain Development that will go towards the purchase of more iPads.

Summary: These are just a few of the adventures our students have been introduced to the last several years.

Chinook Public Schools has a fantastic group of educators who strive to find new and exciting ways to educate our young folks. This group of people invest a ton of extra time, effort and energy to improving the lives of all of the young people in the community. I would also like to commend the efforts of our students in this process. The effort, kindness and pride that our students put into their endeavors is commendable and worth watching. As a community I encourage you to take a look at what the students and staff of Chinook Public Schools are doing. I believe that they are representing us very well and our tax dollars are being put to good use. I would also like to thank all of you for your support of our kids and all of their endeavors, including attending events and supporting all of their fundraisers.
