Chinook wrestles well at Havre Invitational, Wildcats compete in Cascade

Chinook junior Garrett Pruttis pins Noah Marcotte of CMR Staurday morning at the Havre Invitational Wrestling Tournament.

The Chinook Sugarbeeter and Harlem Wildcat wrestling teams saw their first action of the 2019-20 season this past weekend. The Sugarbeeters were in Havre at the Blue Pony Invitational Friday and Saturday while the Wildcats headed west to take part in the Cascade Badger Invitational.

The Sugarbeeters had five wrestlers see the mat this weekend. Freshman Lane Snider saw his first action at 120 pounds, sophomore Drake Berreth competed at 132 pounds, junior Garrett Pruttis weighed in at 152 pounds, senior JT Hauer was at 160 pounds and senior Rielly Wiegand competed at 182 pounds.

All five got some quality mat time in and got a clear understanding of where they were at to start the season. Berreth defeated Colten Loberg of Fergus High by fall Friday and added another pin on Saturday, tapping out Jacob Hjartarson of Cut Bank.

Pruttis face some stiff competition going 0-3 Friday but bounced back with a strong showing on Saturday to finish second at 152 pounds. Pruttis picked up two wins on the day including a pinfall of CMR's Noah Marcotte. Hauer earned two wins by pin Friday, defeating Kendall Moore (Malta) and Kellan Lawhon (CMR). Saturday Hauer pinned Lawhon again to start the day. Wiegand won two matches on Friday as well defeating Trevyn Nave (Fergus) and Nick Bodge (CMR). Saturday he earned a second place finish, pinning Giovanni Gibson (Cut Bank) and earning a 15-12 decision over Bodge.


The Wildcats took nine wrestlers to Cascade including freshman Amelia Blackcrow (113), sophomore Darrius Longknife (126), sophomore Cody Wiegand ( 138), junior Josh Horn (145), sophomore John Hughes (145), junior Andrew Rasmussen (152), sophomore Mike King (170), junior Lance Blackcrow (170) and sophomore Mikkel Rider (205).


Longknife earned pins over Hunter Wallis (Helena High) and Preston Hastings (Cascade). Horn pinned Cascades Lindsey Faldzinski to score points for the Wildcats. Hughes picked up a win by pinfall, defeating Tristan Ecklund (CMR).

Rasmussen won a pair of matches, defeating Kyler Pallister of Helena High by pin. Later he added a pin of Miles Dodge (Jefferson/Boulder) to his resume. Blackcrow pinned Aiden Kelley (Helena Capital) and Ty Mowery (Broadwater/Townsend). Rider finished out the Wildcat scoring with a pin of Anaconda's Tyler Flint.

Both the Sugarbeeters and Wildcats will be in action this Friday as Chinook hosts its first mixer of the season. Saturday the Wildcats will head to Glasgow to compete in the Scottie Invitational.
