The Chinook Sugarbeeter and Harlem Wildcat wrestling teams were in Great Falls this past Friday and Saturday after a pit stop in Fort Benton Thursday.

Before the teams headed into the holiday break they had some final business to tend to. Thursday they took part in the Fort Benton/Big Sandy mixer as a warm up for the CMR Holiday Classic and Walt and Trudy JV tournaments in Great Falls Friday and Saturday.

The final weekend of action on the mat in 2019 had the ‘Beeter and Wildcat wrestlers challenging some of the states elite. Both teams were at the CMR Field house on Friday looking to secure a spot in Saturdays field.

Chinook seniors JT Hauer and Rielly Wiegand both earned spots in the Classic on Saturday while the remaining ‘Beeter and Wildcat wrestlers headed to Great Falls High on Saturday morning.

Hauer went 2-1 Friday, picking up wins over Kendall Moore (Malta and Dominic Scown (Butte) to remain in the Classic tournament Saturday. Hauer lost his morning match and was finished for the day.

Wiegand also won a pair of Matches Friday. In his second match of the tournament he pinned Ashton Akey of Whitefish and then earned a fall over Preston Nitschke-Love of Great Falls. Saturday morning his tournament concluded with his second loss.

The ‘Beeters had six wrestlers in the field Saturday at the Walt and Trudy Currie JV Tournament taking place at Great Falls High. The Harlem Wildcats entered eight grappler’s and both teams turned in worthy performances.

Chinook freshman Tyler Schoen won the 160 lb. division, winning all four of his matches. Schoen began Saturday with a pin of Jose Vaca (Hamilton/Darby) in the first round. He then pinned Belgrades Hunter Rowan and followed with a 22-6 tech fall win over Dallas Blair (Florence-Carlton) in the semi final. Schoen then won his bracket after receiving a forfeit in the championship.

Chinook sophomore Drake Berreth finished second at 132 pounds. Berreth went 3-1 on the day defeating Zane Nealey (Missoula/Hellgate), Daniel Peterson (Missoula/Big Sky) and Colton Loberg (Fergus).

‘Beeter sophomore Wyatt Dunbar also earned a runner up finish going 3-1 in the 285 pound weight class. Dunbar defeated Jackson Anderson (Helena Capital), Ryan Hensley (Great Falls) and Isaac Lauver (Fairfield.

Harlem junior Andrew Rasmussen was second at 152 pounds for the Wildcats. Rasmussen earned a pin over Spencer Gibbs of Malta to reach the final.

Harlem junior Lance Blackcrow also finished second for the Wildcats with a pair of wins on the day. Blackcrow Helena’s Kaleb Kirlin and Jeffersons Braeden Jones in Saturday action.

Sophomore John Hughes finished third for the Wildcats and junior Garrett Pruttis was fourth for the ‘Beeters.
