Speech and Drama Teams Perform Well at State Competition

February 12, 2020

Competitors from across the state faced off in a showcase of imagination, creativity, quick thinking, oratory skill, and acting talent in seventeen different events during the State Class B-C Speech and Drama Tournament, hosted by Bigfork High School on January 31-February 1. When all the frayed nerves were once again settled, winners were announced and awards presented. Chinook High School brought home two titles and a fourth place in Drama Sweepstakes while the Dodson and Hays-Lodge Pole Co-op team accumulated three titles and a seventh place overall in Drama Sweepstakes.

To qualify for the competition, students had to place in the top six at the divisional meet, held January 24-25 in Shelby. The Sugarbeeters qualified three duos in drama events: Gavin Lemro and Grace Ymzon, as well as Jase Pursley and Liam Edwards, in the Drama Humorous Duo category; and Lillyanna Munari and Olivia Standiford in Classical Theater.

At State Pursley and Edwards placed sixth and Ymzon and Lemro placed eighth. Although Standiford and Munari broke into semifinals, they didn't make it into finals.

From the Dodson and Hays-Lodge Pole Co-op team, Loy Molina and Littleman Ironbear were seventh in Dramatic Theater, Nature Bracelet and Randall Werk captured ninth place in Classical Theater, and Monique Gray placed thirteenth in Memorized Public Address.

"This was a great bunch of results for our fledgling program," Coach Paul Condon reported.
