The library will be closed October 12 in observance of Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day.

The Book Challenge for October is to read a book with a body part in the title. We have a selection on display for you to choose from.

Book Club members may pick up the new selection “The Invention of Wings” by Sue Monk Kidd. The first discussion will be October 19, 4 P.M. via Skype. The link is join.skype.com/OBqEUM6IEwF or you may click on the link on our website or Facebook page.

Children may watch Virtual Story Time Tuesdays, 10 A.M. via Facebook Live. This is a time of stories, fingerplays and songs geared to a 0-5 year old audience. Make sure to like Harlem Public Library’s Facebook page so you are able to watch.

The library has devices to access the internet from anywhere as long as there is a cellular connection. These mobile hotspots are available for checkout for fourteen days to registered users who have a good record of at least one month. You must be at least eighteen to check out these devices and a lending agreement must be signed. Please contact the library for more information or to be put on the waiting list. These hotspots were provided with Cares Act funds from Montana State Library and with a grant from Humanities Montana and the National Endowment for Humanities.

The library is leaving the Wi-Fi on 24/7 to assist with access to the internet during the pandemic. The password may be obtained at the front desk. If any illegal activity is detected using the library Wi-Fi it will be turned off when we are closed.

Two new nonfiction books are “The Father of Glacier National Park: Discoveries and Explorations in His Own Words” by George Bird Grinnell, compiled by Hugh Grinnell; and “Canyon Dreams: A Basketball Season on the Navajo Nation” by Michael Powell.

Montana author Jane Fulkerson has written “The Aspen Grove.” This story tells about a third generation Irish immigrant family raising cattle in Colorado in 1883. A catastrophe changes their lives forever. Sheriff Westphal and Deputy Bennington come together to find justice despite serving on opposite sides during the Civil War.

“Always the Last to Know” is a new novel by Kristan Higgins. Barb and John Frost are bored with each other after fifty years of marriage. Their two daughters, Juliet who is Barb’s favorite and Sadie who is John’s favorite, couldn’t be more different. When John has a stroke their family must come to terms with what really matters.

A new thriller by Linda Castillo is “The Outsider.” Amish widower Adam Lengacher finds a car stuck in a snowdrift with an unconscious woman inside. Chief of Police Kate Burkholder is called to assist and is surprised to recognize the driver: fellow cop and former friend Gina Colorosa.

Other new selections this week include “Catherine House” by Elisabeth Thomas, “The Pull of Stars” by Emma Donoghue, and “Summer at Lake Haven” by RaeAnne Thayne.
