Sugarbeeters Earn Homecoming Sweep over Big Sandy, Beat Malta 3-0

Senior Delaney Kellam slams home a kill during Chinook's Homecoming win over the Big Sandy Pioneers Thursday night. Kellam had 12 Kills in the match and followed up with 15 more in the 'Beeters sweep in Malta Saturday.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters volleyball team turned in another superb effort on the court this past week as they improved to 10-1 on the season.

Thursday night the girls welcomed Big Sandy to town as they celebrated Homecoming. Chinook did not disappoint the home town fans as they swept the Pioneers 25-14, 25-20, 25-15.Saturday the 'Beeters were in Malta to take on the M-ettes and again earned a sweep winning by scores of 28-26, 25-23, 25-20.

Senior Delaney Kellam ignited the 'Beeter attack with a big Kill and senior Crystal Hofer followed with an Ace to give Chinook a 8-2 lead in the first set.

Senior Hailey Bell later added back to back Kills and sophomore Bree Swanson slammed home one of her own as Chinook doubled up Big Sandy 14-7. Junior Allison Powell won at the net and the Pioneers committed a pair of errors to give Chinook a 25-14 opening set win.

The two teams traded points early on with a Kill by Kellam evening the score at 7-7. Freshman Hallie Neibauer added a Kill, Bell served an Ace and Neibauer followed with another Kill to swing the momentum back in Chinook's favor 12-8.


The Pioneers battled back eventually taking the lead. Senior Jayden Miller scored at the net, Kellam made a nice tip for a point and Hofer served another Ace for a 20-17 Chinook lead. Bell would end set number two with an Ace for a 25-20 Chinook win.

The third and final set was all Chinook. Holding a 10-7 lead the 'Beeters went on a run. Kellam slammed home a huge Kill, Senior Lily Surber found her mark from the serving line, senior Jade Cecrle made a great save to keep the ball alive, leading to a Powell Kill and a 16-7 advantage.


Powell later added another Kill, Bell followed with one of her own and Miller finished the Pioneers off with a Kill from a Hofer set for a 25-15 match clinching third set win.

The 'Beeters were led in the Homecoming sweep by Kellam who powered home 12 Kills on the night while also recording six blocks. Senior Lily Surber was defensive standout with 13 Digs and five Aces in the win. Senior Ginger Hauer set the hitters up with 22 Assists.

In Malta, the first set never saw either team open up any kind of lead while the advantage changed hands several times. Senior Hailey Bell served an Ace to even the score at 21-21. Miller followed with a Kill to give the 'Beeters the single point advantage.

Chinook would give the point back and then kept inching closer to victory leading to a set winning Kill by Kellam off a nice set from Hauer to win 28-26.


Set number two was another back and forth affair. Chinook led 15-13 following an Ace from Miller but the M-ettes responded with a little run of their own to go up 17-15.

Chinook battled back with Kills from Bell, Kellam and sophomore Bree Swanson on their way to a 25-23 win in set number two.

The Third set was tightly contested as well. Malta held a early 5-3 advantage over the 'Beeters but Chinook has great composure and wasn't at all rattled.

An Ace from senior Crystal Hofer and a trio of Kills from Kellam powered the 'Beeters to a 25-20 third set win to sweep the M-ettes.

The 'Beeter attack was again spearheaded by Kellam. The senior slammed home 15 Kills and stuffed the M-ette attack with six blocks. Miller led the team with 11 Digs while senior Hofer served up five Aces in the win. Hauer set the hitters up with 21 of the teams 23 Assists on the night.

Chinook will be back on the court this Saturday at home against the Fort Benton Longhorns. Chinook will look to avenge their only set back this season. Tuesday the 'Beeters will be in Chester to take on the Hawks.
