Take in the sight of new books available for check out this week at the library.
If you are in the mood to be scared pick up “The Only Good Indians” by Stephen Graham Jones. This novel blends classic horror with sharp social commentary. The story follows four American Indian men after a disturbing event from their youth puts them in a desperate struggle for their lives.
Susan Wiggs is the author of “The Lost and Found Bookshop.” Natalie Harper’s life starts over when she inherits a charming bookstore in San Francisco after a shocking tragedy. She has also inherited a mountain of debt and the care of Grandpa Andrew who is struggling with memory loss. Natalie plans are to sell the bookstore to help pay for his care. There is only one problem – her grandfather owns it outright and refuses to sell.
Two new nonfiction selections are “Last Mission to Tokyo” by Michel Paradis. This is “extraordinary story of the Doolittle Raiders and their final fight for justice” during WWII. Austin Channing Brown has written “I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness.” This is an “eye-opening account of growing up black, Christian, and female that exposes how white America’s love affair with diversity so often falls short of its ideals.”
Michael Connelly’s new thriller is “Fair Warning.” Reporter Jack McEvoy faces a criminal mind unlike any other when a woman McEvoy has a one-night stand with is brutally murdered. In his investigation, McEvoy uncovers a killer who has been hunting women using genetic data to select and stalk his victims.
Other new titles include “A Beautiful Foolish Endeavor” by Hank Green, “The Summer House” by James Patterson and Brendan DuBois, and “A Good Day for a Massacre” by William W. Johnstone.
The library has hotspots available to check out to access the internet anywhere there is a cellular connection. We now have an iPad that may be checked out. You must be a registered user in good standing for at least one month to check out a device. These devices may be checked out for fourteen days. A lending agreement must be read and signed before checkout. Call the library for more information.
The library board of trustees will hold their monthly board meeting October 28, 4:15 P.M. in the library meeting room.
Virtual Story Time is held each Tuesday at 10 A.M. via Facebook Live. This is a fun time of stories, fingerplays and songs geared for children ages 0-5. Be sure to like the Harlem Public Library’s Facebook page so you are able to watch!
