Turner Runs Away From Big Sandy 52-7, Harlem and Hays/Lodge Pole Postpone Games

January 27, 2021

Turner Freshman Hannah Richman, above and Emma Billmayer, top right, have stepped into bigger rolls this season for the Tornadoes. Both played a season ago as eighth graders and are getting quality minutes this season.

The Turner Tornadoes played one game this past week, hammering the Big Sandy Pioneers 52-7. Turner's contest Saturday night against the North Star nights has been postponed. The Harlem Lady Cats got their game in at home Tuesday night against the Box Elder Bears. Following the contest Harlem announced that all winter sports activities would be immediately halted due to Covid-19 safety precautions. The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds made a similar declaration earlier in the day. Both schools plan on resuming practice for student athletes on February 1 and plan to reschedule all postponed games. The Chinook Sugarbeeter played both their scheduled contests, in Gildford Friday against the North Star Knights and at home Saturday against the Fort Benton Longhorns.

Turner took control of their District 9C contest in Big Sandy right from the opening tip. Senior All-state standout Shyan Krass scored 16 first quarter points while sophomore Dakota Krass added six more to power the Tornadoes to a 24-1 lead after one. The Turner offense would get the entire bench involved before the half and their defense wouldn't yield another point sending the teams to halftime with Turner on top 31-1.

The second half slightly resembled the first in that Turner ran their offense effectively in the third and again held the Pioneers scoreless giving Turner a 48-1 lead with eight minutes remaining. In the end the Tornadoes enjoyed a 52-7 win over their conference opponent.

Shyan Krass led the Tornado attack, scoring 20 in limited action. Dakota Krass added 17 more to the Turner total and eight players in all found the scoring column.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters gave the North Star Knights all they could handle for three quarters. The two teams battled each other to a 7-7 tie entering the second quarter of action. The Knights would take a 17-14 lead into halftime in a tightly contested defensive effort by both teams.

The Sugarbeeters cut the lead to a single point, 23-22, getting six of the teams eight points from freshman Hallie Neibauer in a strong third quarter effort. North Star managed to get their offense going down the stretch and pulled away for a 43-33 win over the young 'Beeters. Chinook was paced in the contest by Neibauer with 16 and freshman Britton Elliot with nine.

The Lady Cats trailed the Box Elder Bears at home Tuesday 15-14 at the end of the first quarter. The Bears used a big second quarter effort to earn a little separation, leading the Lady Cats 33-25 at halftime.

Harlem was able to make a good run in the third quarter, outscoring the Bears 17-11 to trim the deficit to two, 44-42 heading into the final quarter. Box Elder was able to double their advantage down the stretch, knocking off the Lady Cats 61-56. Junior Taya Trottier led the Harlem attack, scoring 23 points in the contest. Junior Chloe Messerly added 11 and senior Gabi Bell 10 for the Lady Cats.

The Fort Benton Longhorns were too much for the Sugarbeeters in Chinook Saturday night. The 'Beeters trailed 40-6 at halftime, falling in the end 63-18 to the Districts top seed. Senior Jade Cecrle scored five points for the 'Beeters.
