Warm up with a new book from your library. “Cut to the Bone” is by Ellison Cooper. Agent Sayer Altair is called to investigate a girl’s body left inside a circle of animal figurines with a cryptic message. It is discovered the dead girl is one of twenty-four missing high school students. Altair is drawn into a web of fake identities and false leads and soon realizes she has a connection to the killer.

Jennie Fields is the author of “Atomic Love.” It is 1950, five years after physicist Rosalind Porter’s work on the Manhattan Project and the end of her love affair with colleague Thomas Weaver. Now the FBI and Weaver have gotten back in touch with Rosalind. The FBI wants her to spy on Weaver whom they suspect of passing nuclear secrets to the Russians. Rosalind still has feelings for Weaver and now she will have to choose.

A true crime selection is “Hell in the Heartland: Murder, Meth, and the Case of Two Missing Girls” by Jax Miller.


Sophie Kinsella has written “Love Your Life.” This delightful novel is about a woman who gives up her dating app for a writer’s retreat in Italy. There she finds that love comes with its own filters.

Richard Osman is the author of “The Thursday Murder Club.” In a peaceful retirement village four friends meet weekly to discuss unsolved crimes. When a local developer is found dead, the Thursday Murder Club find themselves in the middle of a live case. Can the brilliant gang of senior citizens catch a killer before it’s too late?

Other thrillers include “House of Correction” by Nicci French, “Goodnight Beautiful” by Aimee Molloy, and “The Searcher” by Tana French.

The Book Challenge for February is to read a book with a medical theme. If you have completed the January Book Challenge contact the library so you may be entered to win a gift certificate from a local business.

You may participate in the Winter Reading Program until the end of the month. For each book you read enter it on the READsquared app or website. For each book read a snowflake is added to the Winter Reading wall.

Book Club members may pick up the new selection “The Homesman” by Glendon Swarthout. The first discussion via Skype will be Monday, February 8, 4 P.M.

The library is hosting the program “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” to encourage family literacy and to prepare children for school. Contact the library to register your child and they will receive a board book prize. Track the number of books read using the READsquared app or any system that works for you. Your child may earn prizes as goals are reached.

Virtual Story Time is held each Tuesday morning at 10 A.M. via Facebook Live. This is a great time for children to take part in stories, fingerplays, and songs. Each week there will be a take-home craft activity packet available to pick up at the library. Be sure to like the Harlem Public Library Facebook page so you may watch.
