It doesn't seem long ago that Chinook Sugarbeeter senior Rebecca Stroh was making history at the State B/C Wrestling Tournament in Billings as a freshman. Stroh won the first ever all female wrestling match on the big stage and became just the third female to ever earn a spot on the podium.

Flash forward to her senior season she leaving behind a legacy that will include participating at the first ever Montana All-Class Girls Wrestling Tournament to be held at Lockwood High School in Billings, February 19-20. Joining her in Helena will be freshman standout Ryley Hofeldt.

Both Hofeldt and Stroh competed in Cascade last Tuesday in their first ever All-Girl wrestling mixer. The Cascade event was the first of its kind for any B/C school and the third in state.

Hofeldt has dominated her opponents winning match after match by pin fall. Tuesday in Cascade she was one of only six in the field of 34 to win both her matches. Hofeldt wrestling at 138 pounds, pinned Isabella Brewer of Flathead in 1:00 in round one. In her second match of the day, she pinned Flathead's Hannah Embry in 1:50.

Stroh wrestled in the 113 pound division and won her first match by pin fall over Hanla Halverson of Flathead High at the 4:53 mark. In round number two, Stroh was defeated by Hannah Hurst of Hamilton by pin fall (3:10).

When the pair heads to the All-Class State Girls Wrestling Tournament they will be part of a field that will include 169 girls from all four classifications. Originally the girls were divided into seven weight classes but being the first year and all, MHSA officially monitored participation numbers as well as weigh ins and adjusted the field to include 10 weight classes.

Those weight classes include: 103. 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 170 and 205. Because no qualifying standards are in place for girls wrestling all competitors will qualify for the state tournament.

Unlike the girls, the boys will not compete in the traditional All-Class format this year do to Covid-19. The MHSA recently approved a proposal for the Class B/C State Tournament to be held in Shelby on March 5. The Eastern C Divisional will be in Glasgow February 26-27. Chinook and Harlem are now part of the Eastern C Division
