$2,500 Foundation for Rural Service Scholarship Available

March 3, 2021

Triangle Communications partners with the Foundation for Rural Service on a $2,500 scholarship opportunity. The deadline is March 5. Because the Cooperative also provides up to 37 additional high school and three college scholarship opportunities, they encourage applicants to start an application today!

According to the Triangle Communications’ Community Page, their partnership with the Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) gives students the opportunity to receive a scholarship of up to $2,500. Anyone interested in this financial aid will need to create an account with FRS and then apply for the scholarship online at frs.org/programs.

The foundation annually awards scholarships to a group of rural students for their first year of college or vocational school. All applicants require sponsorship by an NTCA—The Rural Broadband Association member company to be eligible. Triangle Communications belongs to that association, making its subscribing customers eligible.

FRS has awarded over $1 million in scholarships since its inception. Their website claims that these scholarships are “empowering rural students throughout the country to advance their communities with invaluable skill sets and experiences.”

To be eligible, an applicant must also meet these added criteria:

• Be a graduating high school senior

• Be a United States citizen

• Be accepted by an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school

• Possess at least a C grade point average (GPA)

• Express an interest in returning to a rural community following graduation.

In addition to this scholarship, Triangle offers multiple $1,000 scholarships.

To be eligible for one of these awards, the applicant must be a subscriber or a dependent of a subscriber who receives landline telephone, broadband, or mobile telephone service from the Cooperative. Eligible applicants should be pursuing their first degree or certificate and may not have been a recipient of a Triangle scholarship in the past.

A simple application form can also be found on the Triangle Communications Community Page. Applications for these smaller awards are due April 1.
