March is the month to “Buy a Bag O’ Books!” For only one dollar you may purchase a grocery sack full of used books.

The Book Challenge for March is to read a nonfiction historical book or a historical fiction book. Each month we offer the challenge to read a book from a certain category. When you complete the challenge your name is entered to win a gift certificate from a local business.

This week’s new books include “The Midnight Library” by Matt Haig. In this novel Nora Seed feels she had let everyone down in her life and is filled with misery and regret. When she finds herself in the Midnight Library, between life and death, she has a chance to make things right. Each book in the library offers a different life, where she can make choices that play out in an infinite number of ways.

David Duchovny is the author of “Truly Like Lightning.” Former Hollywood stuntman, Bronson Powers, converted to Mormonism and it now living deep in the desert with his three wives and ten children. Their choice to live away from the corruption and evil of the modern world is disturbed when property developer, Mary Abbadessa, discovers their land. She crafts a wager with the family that sets in motion a series of life-changing events.


“Burden of Proof” is a new legal thriller by Davis Bunn. Ethan’s brother Adrian was murdered on the steps of the Jacksonville, Florida, courthouse. Ethan feels he missed the chance to save his brother’s life and ever since is consumed with guilt and failure. Adrian’s widow asks Ethan for help uncovering what was really behind his brother’s death and they discover the legal case they were pursuing was more far-reaching than they could have imagined.


When Cadi Kessler receives an urgent message from her childhood friend, Daniela Garcia, Cadi returns to her childhood home. There Cadie and Daniela must come to grips with a dark secret that ruined their childhood. “Waiting for the Night Song” is by Julie Carrick Dalton.

When she moved to LA to start her own law firm, dating was the last thing on Olivia Monroe’s mind. But then she meets a gorgeous man at a hotel bar, she discovers too late he is junior senator Max Powell. Olivia has no interest in dating a politician, but soon realizes he is sweet, funny and noble. But can the relationship withstand the media scrutiny? “Party of Two” is by Jasmine Guillory.

New thrillers include “The Last Agent” by Robert Dugoni, “Every Kind of Wicked” by Lisa Black, and “Imperfect Women” by Araminta Hall.

The Book Club meets Mondays at 4 P.M. via Skype. We are now reading “The Flood Girls” by Richard Fifield. The link can be found on the library website at harlempubliclibrary.org.

Children are invited to join Virtual Story Time each Tuesday at 10 A.M. via Facebook Live.

Parents/guardians are invited to register their infants, toddlers, and preschoolers for the “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” program sponsored by the library.
